I have just got my bill from the stud where our mare and foal were, I'm shocked at the farrier charge for the pair of them. What have you been charged or do you pay?
When they were home my farrier did then and just charged me for two trims!

I know farrier costs differ around the country but our farrier charges £20 trim mare and £15 foal. I presume the stud would of also charged for holding the pair to be trimmed, not sure how much this would be. Hope thats of some help.

I have been charged £100 which quite frankly is ridiculous even with a handling fee! My mare is easy and so is the foal so can't even say they were difficult!
I've queried it but have been told it was a farrier's charge and not done to them!

I could have taken my own farrier there for less!

That does sound ridiculous, although it is a skilled job doing foals, but stud did select the farrier!

I'd love to say their feet looke great... But I'd be lying! ;)
Let's just say I was glad to get them home and have them done by my lovely farrier!
Lesson learned :o

I did! Was told its not available. Convenient :(

Perfect, and your reply is, "If I can't view the farriers bill, then I shan't settle my debt".

Ask for the contact 'phone number of the farrier, and if it's refused, google "available farriers" in the area of the stud. Track down the farrier, and ask just what the hell he's playing at. At the worst, it should be £20 per animal, and that's not £100!! You may well find that the farrier is as shocked as you are. ;)

I suspect that you've been treated very badly, and if you'd like me to make discreet enquiries, on your behalf, then PM me. ;)

Alec.

If they are saying the bill is not available, this screams that they are conning you out of money. I would suggest that this is not the farrier charge but that your stud has pocketed a pretty penny and thinks they can get away with it.
I would not roll over on this. If they cannot provide a bill DO NOT pay it. As previous poster said I would definately track the farrier down and ask what he charges before mentioning your reasons for asking.

When Bloss and Paris where at stud the stud didnt charge any extra for holding them, thats all included in the services they provide (handling etc). So paid normal rate which was £30 for Bloss's trim and £25 for Paris. It was my farrier that did them anyway as stud was only down the road from my yard.

I certainly wouldnt be paying £100 though!!!!!!!!
