Farrier due?

Jesus Christ, at first I thought this was a joke! They are shocking! Again, another who is surprised your horse is not lame. Sack the farrier asap and get a new one! Really he needs to go barefoot and back to scratch with them hooves. Good BF diet, regular trims or if he can't cope, a good diet and shod every 5 weeks with the state of them hooves.

I'm another who thinks that a change of farrier is in order, unless you haven't had the horse long and your farrier is working on the feet. I'd definitely want the YO to mind her own business.

Thanks everyone - i agree that his feet, especially this one is bad, back two not so. Couldn't get hold of recommended farrier today but got a few others to call on monday. Really hope they can be seen to this week.
Can't quote on my phone but yes the farrier is the 'yard's farrier' and the YO arranges it. She said her's is due in 2 weeks, she'll put him in then but she doesn't think the farrier can do anything!!!
He can't wait 2 weeks and the farier has a lot to do!

I hope you can get hold of one soon.
YO may arrange shoeing but does she actually get yours done or just bill you anyway? her farrier probably cannot do anything other than make things worse if that is the attitude.

His feet are shocking. You seriously need to get on top of this situation. I'm another one who would take the shoes off and give these poor feet half a chance.

If your YO really thinks they are acceptable then you need to be thinking about moving yards.

Poor horse :(

Good that your getting onto getting the farrier out, I'd be inclined to call someone else that is recommended by a friend maybe if the normal farrier can't come out as that hoof is awful! :( then id be changing farriers and making sure I did the arranging and not yo, appreciate its difficult when its the 'house' farrier!

Are you on full livery OP and perhaps don't see the horse very often? I can see many posts slating the YO here but OP is responsible for monitoring her horses health too. I probably sound like a right cow but you seem to be absolving all responsibility here OP? Fantastic that OP is seeking advice but I think the slating of the YO while fully supporting OP is hypocritical. *dons tin hat perhaps this will be a massive case of foot and mouth*

I'd be as concerned about what looks like stress rings around the hoof in the first pic as with the length of the toe and the underun heels.

No, you ate right Billie. Bottom line is we are responsible for our horses, no one else. Owner makes the decisions. No one else.

Amanda - agreed bad advice and bad YO but the feet didn't get like that overnight. OP needs to now take her time to educate herself which is fabulous and she is going to do that. But why didn't she know that these are quite possible very poorly feet?

I think some of you are perhaps being a little harsh. Apologies if I am incorrect in assuming that the OP is one of our younger members?

I might be wrong but I gather from previous posts that the OP has had some trouble at this yard for sometime and that she is shown little or no respect unless her father happens to be there. And is it the case OP that you are in the process of trying to find a new yard?

I think you need to sit down with your Dad and really enlist his help to sort this all out. I can't be the only one that is doubting this poor horse was even seen by the farrier 2 weeks ago. Were you there Op when he was supposedly shod?

If you are soon moving to another yard it might be possible to then enlist a new farrier to help you sort his feet out?

But op is being actively told not to get a farrier out for another two weeks....imho that's dangerous advice, this horse needs a lot of rehab work asap.....

Op is a young girl, still at school from what she has said in previous posts, it can be hard to stand up to " knowledgeable " adults who tell you something, even if the info is wrong, there are other issues with the yard owner which seem that the OP is treated as a child rather than the client.

Sorry read it wrong. Agree with other posters... horses with bad feet need attention more than every 6 weeks, but still it doesn't look like those feet have been shod properly in a while.

I am a younger member, first horse, kept on part livery and not one to question someone's advice if they have more experience than me! I had a strong feeling they were bad, that's why I came here for a few opinions. Going to the possible new yard tomorrow to discuss an agreement :D

I am by no means judge and jury OP. No offense meant. How old are you? Perhaps I could have been more gentle in my approach. Glad to hear you are looking elsewhere. I have tried to read an awful lot about hooves since taking my mares shoes off but I am still a beginner....

Oh the very best of luck - you DO need to get a new farrier to those feet next week though, or you could end up with very serious problems. No foot = no horse x
