farrier expectations

Just wanted to compare notes........ if your horse looses a shoe (or you can see/ hear one is coming loose), how quickly do you expect your farrier to come out for you to replace it? (and, if different, how quickly does your farrier then actually come out!?)....... and do you have a "plan B" for if your farrier is on holiday?

Just wanting to figure out if my own expectations are fair or not.

Thanks!!

My farrier lives 60 miles away. He comes every 2nd week. If they loose a shoe in between, tough they have to wait. If I'm desperate, he'll tell me if he's anywhere I can get to and I can trailer the horse over.

I don't think I have even waited longer than the third day after I have rung .
I sometimes will take the horse and meet the farrier somewhere .
I am happy to wait my turn if there's nothing pressing going on with the horse then when I need a shoe quick the farriers will sort something for me.

blimey, Britestar, I think I'm hard done by if I have to wait a couple of days, let alone a couple of weeks!!

I think I might be a bit of a demanding customer (blushes) :)

He'd more than likely swing by on his way home after work, if I really needed him to. I've got a good one right now.

Mine is really good generally. If it's a lost shoe then he will usually be out within a couple of days and just pop in between other appointments if he's local. If I've found the shoe then he might come the following morning on his way to first appt, as it's easy to just pop it back on. If horse loses a back shoe then I am not too bothered about him coming urgently as horse won't mind, and TBH he will still work in the school with a front missing, so I'm not one for panicking about getting farrier out immediately.

Horse managed to lose a shoe the day before I went to camp last year, pratting about in the field. Farrier came out on his way home, about 9.30pm, which was brilliant.

Normally within a day or two.

New horse pulled a shoe off on Sunday and farrier isn't coming out till Friday. The reason for that is I like to be there the first time with new horses because I have no idea how they will behave with the farrier. I have the day off on Fri so he's coming out at 9 a.m then.
