hi im just not happy with the way my horses are being shod at the moment bith only have front shoes on.ive changed twice now threw people that have recommened to me and they were worse. i really someone that is really good so ideally looking for a barefoot trimmer that is also a farrier is there such thing? or if not a really good farrier that does corrective shoeing as one of my mares is a very bad lamintic so cant afford to mess about with trim.

thanks

If your horse is a "bad laminitic" for god's sake, only allow a fully trained and registered farrier to shoe or trim her feet, ANY registered farrier is capable of trimming your horse if you choose for her to go barefoot. Farriers, don't just deal with people who want their horses shod.

I think you'll find the poster specifically asked for a trained farrier.....

However, I would disagree with the every farrier can trim a barefoot horse - based on my own experience.

sorry totally disagree with any resigered farrier as one buggered her feet really bad which really affected her wont go into detail.

im in upminster/horndon area

I dont wont to take them barefoot as it just dont work for my two especially the lamintic. really want a good trim with shoes like anyone really.

eoe - is that person farrier.barefoot trimmer both? thanks

A barefoot trimmer is not a qaulified farrier and is not allowed to put shoes or even trim a foot in preparation for a shoe

as a trained farrier who takes pride in my work (and has seen what these so called barefoot trimmers can do to feet!!) i would recommend a trained farrier expecially when it comes to a laminitic case.

we did a four year apprenticeship for a very good reason and should all be capable of doing a good grass turn out trim as well as corrective and remedial trimming (i personally believe that good shoeing starts with good trimming)

anyway i know a good farrier but i dont think he would be able to help you since you seem to have so little faith in our profession.

Has to be farrier all the way for me and I have 2 unshod, one out of work and one youngster, and my mare has fronts only, I love my farrier, he's great and i'd not trade him in for anything. Not sure if he goes out as far as Upminster area but can p.m. you details if you'd like to call him and ask.

Twinkle, hope you don't mind but I thought I would clarify what you actually want as some of the comments you are getting are less than helpful due to the poster not actually understanding your question/reading it properly. They seem to be using your request for help as an opportunity to jump straight on to the barefoot is the devil bandwagon.

From your original post, I understand that you have a few horses, one of which is laminitic. You have had problems with your current farrier not balancing the foot properly and then applying the shoe. It is well known that a key part of shoeing is the correct and balanced trim of the foot, this is essential to the wellbeing of the horse. This is especially key when shoeing a laminitic horse. Hence your request for a good farrier.

So..... can anyone recommend an excellent farrier in the Essex area, who is qualified and is well known for their ability to trim and balance a foot correctly before putting on the shoe.

Now I know that farriers have trained for four years but as with any profession you will get your good and bad practitioners, just because a person has trained as a farrier for four years does not automatically make them brilliant at their job.

It sounds to me that the poster has unfortunately met with one of the less diligent members of the profession and is now asking for help to find one more suited to her/his needs.

Please before replying like you have READ my post properly

Thanks Pootler im glad you have understood what im trying to get any answers for lol

Im asking for a Trained farrier who is also very good at balancing the foot or has ALSO done a barefoot course so they have tryed to understand further in there education how important it is to balance a foot.

Again i had a well known TRAINED,QAULIFIED FARRIER do my horses feet and not going into detail but my vet told me NOT to use him was that bad.

Im not asking for a barefoot person as im NOT taking my horses barefoot.

I know that a barefoot person is not allowed to put shoes on.
