It is possible for a sensitive horse to be upset by a farrier who is not having a good day and is a bit abrupt in his manner, so it is well worth trying your old farrier, however from the other details, e.g. age, stiff hind, worn shoes, I think you should also have the vet out for a quick MOT. At that age there are bound to be niggles and pains that may make her stiff and uncomfortable when shod.
