I know there are good and bad in all jobs. I also understand that they can only do so many in one day i imagine its one of those jobs that the more you do the more in demand you become.
The thing that bugs me the most about farriers i have experienced (not only in Aberdeenshire, also Perh and Newmarket) in the past is the lateness if they let me know its fine but i have 2 young kids that i have to ferry around one is 7 month old so i have to try and do his feeding around my days plans. Where as if i have been pre warned it makes things much easier.
Murray last week was running 20mins late so he called and let me know over a hour before hand. Which was perfect for me. When living in Newmarket i had a farrier booked and waited for 1 1/2 hours he then called me to cancel. You wouldnt expect bad custmer service in a shop why should it be accepted any where else.

Although after me saying that i wouldnt want to do the job, i even appologised to the farrier the other day fr there being no shade where i have my horses!

He also sells very friendly JRT's - we have one!

Oh does he? I just bought a JRT puppy from my new YO. She is adorable and spends her day sleeping or terrorising my mum's two Weimaraners by jumping up and hanging onto their ears by her teeth if possible hehe.

I hope Ron is taking on at least one new customer! I havent called him to book yet as wont be needing him for a month or so. But I think he does others on my yard.

He was vetted yesterday and passed so first thing monday I am calling Eric Gillie to confirm if they can pick him up this week. They said they probably wouldnt have space so it may be about 29th before they can deliver him :(

I think he was only shod a week or two ago so will have to find out and get him booked in then. In Warks I could call my farriers up on a monday and have my horse shod by the end of the week.

Moved back in with mother in Aberdeenshire about a month ago. Still jobless though and my flat in Warwickshire still needs tennants so really need to find a source of income soon!!

I only got a farrier when I moved up as I was local to him so he could do us easily. But even so you cant book an appointment for next time, you have to ring up a week before and leave a message and then sometime (might be a week, might be 3!) you get a call to say hes coming that day or the next morning. Good job Im available being on the farm!

He shoes one and trims the other tho she doesnt need much. Happy with the shoeing tho left longer at the toe than I would think best, but horse is sound and happy at 17 so not going to interfere, hes in very light work.

He almost didnt want to trim the mare (she just has a rub with the rasp) when I said she was a Haflinger, I think hes met a few nightmare ones, but thankfully she has redeemed his view of the breed by being an angel and only nuzzling his back the whole time :)))

Not being able to book is a real pain. But they are so thin on the ground, you have to go with the flow. To encourage him, the horses are always in, always with clean feet and hardstanding and water on tap. And he is always paid in cash there and then.

BTW there was a farrier looking to set up in Aberdeenshire mentioned in the endurance newsletter. Dont know him but anyone who wants his contact details PM me.
