What do you pay for a full set of shoes? and then to replace a shoe that has come off? Particularly interested in farrier costs in the South East (Berks/Hampshire/Oxfordshire)
I am in south Wilts and my farrier is from Hampshire, last time I had my horse shod (this time last year though) I paid about £75 for a set. I have never had one of my farrier's shoes come off my horse, or my old pony, or my old loan pony who had rubbish feet and was hated by all other farriers in the area for losing too many shoes, so I wouldn't know what he charges to replace one!
If my ned had a set of normal shoes I think it would be £60 +VAT..
As it is at the mo he has NB shoes on front, wedge pads behind (£20) plus 8 stud holes.. usually £90ish depending on if he has refits or not.. it's a tenner to put on a lost shoe.. Farrier is totally reliable (usually early!), does a v good job (horse has crappy TB feet) and comes out within a day or two for a lost shoe - worth his weight in gold.!!!
Surrey - £65 set, £55 refit, have never lost a shoe, but did lift clenches and remove one nail once and farrier arrange for another one to come out that day to put in nail and reset clenches as he was abroad............no charge!!!
Actually I am shocked by my price now!! I didn't realise prices were as low as that! Then again, I wouldn't change my farrier for the world - fab customer service, always turns up or calls if not/if late, fab at shoeing, patient with the bad ones, willing to liaise with my vet to help take the strain off my horse's injury... I don't think I'd trust anyone else. I certainly don't trust the one who has been trimming her feet for the last 11 months as I had to move Maiden out of my usual farrier's catchment area
i am Cambridgeshire, I pay £60 for a full set, £30 for just fronts, £20 for a trim. My farrier hot shoes. He is reliable, if i happen to lose a shoe a couple of weeks down the line he doesn't charge.
£55 hot shod, full set. £45 for refits (my old mare is 35 & doesn't do much). Technically nothing for a lost shoe, but I pay him £10 as he's very, very good. Ex Army so punctual or early, faultlessly reliable, reads up on new techniques, does shoeing comps, researches solutions to probs... Therefore the odd £10 here & there & a bottle of Jack Daniels at xmas is well worth it to keep him sweet.
I pay £64 (I think, I'm not very good at remembering!) for a full set every 5 weeks.
So far only had one shoe twist slightly a couple of days after he was shod and the farrier came back out for free.

Guess it would really piss you off to know that when I have stud holes, my farrier has never charged me for them!!!!

Only had stud holes on my TB and the last time was in 2005 ... I think he charged about 75p plus VAT of course for each of them ( or it may have been £1 plus VAT )
