Farrier Prices

When I was in the Notts area I was paying £85 per set. My current farrier is one of the cheaper ones locally, I know others who are paying £85 or even £90 per set round me.

I think mine are about £65 to get a full set and trim - and I'm in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland :)

Used to only be £35 for fronts and a trim. Then my horse decided to protest one year and now the bank suffers :(

I'm in West Yorkshire and my farrier, who I hasten to add is absolutely amazing, charges £60 for a set. Luckily for my bank balance, however, my current horse doesn't need shoes, and the pony only has fronts. My old Thoroughbred mare was a different matter!

£60/set. I luff my farrier. He charges nothing to put a shoe back on if it's up to 14 days since she was shod or will charge £10 to put a new one on after that. He'll also come out for free to tighten the shoe up if I hear it clanking - usually the same day.

And he's always on time and lets me know with lots of notice if he can't make it that day. Such a massive change from my old farrier.

I was paying almost £90 a set from a "highly reputable" farrier- was one at the Olympics.

Vet was horrified with my homebred youngsters feet and only he had touched them at £55 a trim!

All barefoot now and its £20 a trim and horses have never been happier.

I was so gutted that I thought I was using the best and my horses were suffering I now realise. :(

Devon £78 a set, gone up quite a bit and I'm not happy so will look at going bare, other horses are.
Farriers aren't very reliable in my area but this farrier is so he's charging for it

I pay £65 for a full set, hand made and hot shod, have never had a problem with horses feet, Farrier is ace, will shoe regardless if i am there or not, and so good with my silly horse! And also doesnt charge to put lost shoes back on! Worth his weight in gold!
I have used my farrier since he was an apprentice, bar a year or so, and his boss at the time was charging £60 for fronts + £10 for a hind trim! I was very pleased when M qualified, moved to my area and didnt charge that ammount!

£70 a set and my farriers a star as will shoe if I'm not there, get horse in and turn her back out!

your horse and farrier are not insured if the owner or a representative are not present, not sure if you were aware of that. I wont leave my farrier to shoe without me because of it and I trust him implicitly after using him for over 24yrs.

£25 for a trim
£50 for fronts and hind trim with 2 road nails in fronts
£80 full set, road nails and 2 stud holes in each shoe

all hot shod, reliable and very good farrier, happy to do bare or shod and does a fair bit of remedial work-local vets rate him and use him a fair bit, horse very rarely lose shoes but he only charges to put back on if it is over a couple of weeks since shod

I'm in Halifax West Yorkshire my Blacksmith charged me £70.00 for a full set my horse passed away on 8th June and my blacksmith is making me something out of his shoes. He's an absolute star had him shoeing for 20 years. Now he just rasps my Shetland £20.00 comes from far side of Huddersfield.

Not based in the UK currently so probably not comparable but with my last horse/farrier I paid £115 per shoeing converted from NOK. Was great at the technical aspects of the job, couldn't always say the same about punctuality or reliability when it came to keeping appointments (or letting me know). Was forced to put up with him however as qualified farriers other than him were non-existant in my area. Seems I could have covered two horses for that amount had I been based somewhere else!

I'm starting to appreciate my farrier more and more as I read through the thread. As well as the competitive shoeing rates, he will always replace any shoes that are lost for free, will be there the same day if I think that there are any foot problems (none of which have ever been caused or contributed to by him), and came up within twenty minutes of us calling him when I lost my mare and wanted to have her shoes off to keep (and cried with me as he did it). When my mare had an abscess, he came up every day for five days to check on her, and didn't charge me for a single call out - the only thing he added to the price was the pad that she wore afterwards, which he charged me £10 for. He's constantly on hand for advice, and has always been completely honest as to how many shoes my horses actually needed (he was the one to recommend that my pony could have his back shoes off, even though that meant losing £30 every time he shod him). He custom makes the pony's shoes for no extra cost, only charges me £10 to trim my unshod gelding, and includes trimming the pony's hinds in the price of shoeing the fronts. He's so good that I have recommended him to multiple people, most of whom have switched and all of whom now sing his praises :) I love my farrier!

My farrier has just given me a price increase so wanted to see what the going rate was at the moment!!

I pay £76 per set then extra for stud holes, and to be honest if I hadn't been with the same farrier for over 20 years I would have gone elsewhere, as it's gotten very expensive with 2 full sets every 5-6 weeks (plus stud holes) and 2 pairs of fronts every 6 weeks for my ponies. I stay purely out of loyalty, but it's getting harder and harder, especially when we have farriers coming to the yard for others that only charge £60-£65 inc stud holes!!

I pay £60 for a set with stud holes and road stud nails for one of mine and £66 for the other who has wedges. He too has road stud nails but no stud holes. Other farriers in my area charge a lot more though I know one person whose horse has the same wedges as mine and she pays £95 a set. It's not like her farrier is more reliable / better than mine either as mine is fab never charges to put on a lost shoe and didn't even want to charge me to come out twice to remove and then replace the shoe when my boy had an abcess. I had to hide £20 in his van for diesel and then text him to lethim know where it was!

Insured by whom? I wouldn't expect to know the small print of my farrier's insurance policy and have a farrier who will also shoe alone and pop the horses back out in the field if necessary.
