Hi, what is the biggest size that standard off the peg horseshoes come in? I am off to see a horse for sale and as its a chunky cob i dont want to buy something that needs special shoes made. The width across its feet is 7" if that helps
Thanks very much for any help in advance

PS i have left a message for my farrier but he hasnt got back to me yet...

Just asked husband, he said unless it was a shire he would not charge any more.
The shoe measurement is worked out the by measuring the trimmed foot as you have. (or possibly the shoe)
The widest part and from the heal to where the front clip would be. say the measurements are 7 and 8 take the average 71/2. double it and add an inch so 16inchs of steel around his foot. This would make him shoe size 11ish which is a standard size shoe for say a 16hh cob. He carries bigger than this in stock.
Hope this helps.

my tb 15.2hh had feet that mesured 6.5" x 6.5"!! (yes i did do it right, she has very big feet) cant say wot size she is as cant remember i do know she has gone down a size. her shoes come 'off the peg' without any problem. just give him the mesurements he will know roughly wot size to bring not sure that is how u work out what size as myother one is a 4 or 5? and she as average size 16hh feet.

Thanks for your help- farrier has just confirmed that 7" width feet will not cost anymore than normal

Just wanted to avoid a hidden cost of ownership as £120 a set for shire shoes would hurt!!!
