Hi,

My horse has very soft crumbly feet and i've been using farriers formula on him about a month after i got him (so 6 months in total) and I was wondering if anyone else uses it and knows it to be good?
I know it takes 6 months plus to work as it starts at the coronet and works it's way down, i've got the added fact that he's got bacteria in his feet so trying to get rid of that at the same time but can't tell at the moment if it has made any difference!

Thanks

Rhi

I have been using Kevin Bacon on his feet (and feeding him the f formula) - do you think the keratex is better then?
Thanks

In my opinion, and it is only my opinion, Keratex works better and faster than Kevin Bacon, it is also less messy to use

was not impressed with KB, made no diff, really like NAF hoof rub for my flakey feet has been superb. Thik there supp is good 2 (the pro feet one) but have just switched to formula 4 feet as need a pellet in the summer not a powder

Unfortunately with feedstuff you can only tell after 6-9 months wether it has made a difference. I was recommended by my farrier once to use Formula4Feet instead it is a bit more economical but he said it does the same - they are very good at delivering too and you can get a sample to try if your horse eats it. For immediate action I would also go with Keratex, which I have also used and also they are very good at knowing their stuff (horses' feet) and give good recommendation about hoof care in my experience.

I used FF on my pony when I first had her as he feet were crumbly, didn't grown and she was losing shoes every two weeks and had to be sedated to be shod, it's fab stuf and really improved her feet.

I must get a pic of Kao's foot.
She had an abscess burst out of her coronet band in February, since having her on Dengie healthy hoof for a few months, it's grown right down. Her hooves are usually very slow growing.
Her feet are doing fantastically well on it and I can't recommend it enough

I used FF...was brillaint. You cant expect it to be quick if its doing its job, a quick job is nearly always a poor one. there are things you can apply to the hoof to help.

Farriers Formula is expensive, black sunflower seeds work just as good, when I house sat for Kerrili all her horses have them, I had never heard of doing this before till I met her but all her 5 horses had the most fab condition feet and some of them didnt have shoes I was really impressed and she said it was down to the sunflower seeds, and they are sooo much cheaper than FF.

For the bacteria have a look at the Equi Life website - they make Formula 4 Feet and also do a solution for bacterial infections etc (sorry can't remember the name). Haven't used it as I don't need to but would if I did (does that make sense?!) as I use the F4F and think its great.
