After reading post below about how awful some farriers can be, can I just say how amazing mine is. Rocks is terrified of men and awful with the farrier, but he never raises his voice or stresses, just waits til Rocks is ready and does everything gently.

Then yesterday Rocks lost a hind shoe. I texted him saying 'Rocks lost a shoe whens the soonest you can come out' expecting some time this weekend - got a reply saying "Be there in 45minutes". Was amazed!!! And he didn't even charge me for it! I know a lot of farriers who won't even come out to put a shoe back on.

So there not all farriers are bad

I also am in the minority. My farrier is fab. Fits me in asap for anything other than I've booked for, and doesn't charge for lost shoes/stud holes/special shoes etc. Mind you, I do bribe him with lots of homemade baking

I can't believe the majority of farriers are bad?

I've used a few different farriers and haven't really had any complaints. One at home left his feet too long but I moved away anyway so stopped using him. The two before that were great, both down here have been great in terms of the job they do. The one I used when I first moved here was brilliant (did a great job) but was a real miserable git, upset my YO so I changed to a guy who is just great.

I have a fabulous farrier, but have had a few iffy ones before. had to find a temporary farrier recently as mine had surgery on his ankle after an accident. Could I find one? Could I heck-as-like

I've had three different farriers in the past. The one I have now is fantastic, well priced and brilliant. One i had before that was a total tw*t. Very expensive and really nasty to the horses, would hit them with his rasp etc which with a horse like Rock is just unacceptable. One before that was good apparently - i was too young to really know at that point as was with my pony
