yes and it's my others half again! I thought that subject would get you all here... after reading a few of the posts on your site I feel the need to vent, what is a natural farrier and where did (s)he train? exactly... nowhere! your farrier is a vault of information, don't be scared to ask him(her) questions on any given subjects on you horses well being. we study for 4 years just to become a farrier and then from there a continual education on how to improve the life and welfare of every equine on gods green earth. I'm proud to call myself one and prove every day that I'm the top of my profession (or so i belive anyway!)... don't feel that because you are at a loss for answers, that you are alone, there is always someone who has the understanding and information to help you along the way. I;m not saying we know everything but I'll tell you this, we know more than most, thats why you pay us the money...

I know its a bit much but in all honestly we're there to help. there isn't many of us but we all aim to do the job to the best of our ability (or so I hope) I know that we have a hard time from alot of people but if you could take a minute to understand what we do and the things that we have to contend with then perhaps you might pre book the next shoeing and root out those sugar filled snacks just to keep us going... a farrier that always has a smile on his face

I just wish I could find one who knows how to put NB shoes on properly

Short of flying one over here every eight weeks, which ain't happening. I would supply him with any legal thing he requires, book in advnce and scatter rose petals before him

whats the problem that your horse has?

He does not pick his feet up very well and is prone to stumbling and catching his toes. He also slides his left hind through instead of placing it. When I bought him I changed farriers to the guy who shod my friends endurance arabs with NB shoes. This guy heard my tales of woe, inspected FBs feet, conformation, way of moving etc and told me that NB shoes would be worth using to help with FBs breakover ('rolling' here). It took a year to get his feet right and Jose did a fantastic job, the NB shoes were a revelation and the tripping and stumbling stopped. FB then had an accident, was unshod for nine months and when he arrived here in the north (1200km away from Jose) I used the most recommended farrier in Galicia to shoe him. I asked for NB shoes but, tbh I don't think the guy understands how they work and why they are fitted they way they should be. IMO he has done a crap job, FBs heels are too low and his toes left too long. FB has quite upright pasterns and I think the angle of his hooves is all wrong, also with NB I understood you need a shorter toe and slightly higher heels. This guy has trimmed FBs feet like he was a typical Spanish conformed horse. I am angry because we were doing so well and now I am back to square one again

I can send you pics of the day he was shod if it will help.

its not an uncommon problem that you are having, i see it quite alot around where I am but through progressive work things are getting a bit more how they should be (or the way I think they should be anyway)... sounds to me that if your farrier is not willing to take the toes back on FBs feet and give him a bit more support at the back of his feet then he may be willing to use wedge pads, this would mean that he can trim FB how he thinks he should be trimmed but putting the wedges on will correct the angles in the feet and therefore ease any strain on the flexor tendons and prevent stumbling as well... pictures would be handy as I'm only guessing at the minute what the problem is without seeing FB.

Why don't you book your next appointment before he leaves you?
