ok this might end up being a long one sorry!
basically had some quite big farrier problems in the last 6 months. All started with my mares inttermittent lamness beinging of last year. vet suggested feet should be trimmed shorter and possiably fit pads had x rays taken which confmed this (showed no boney changes at time not lame). farrier said was pointless using pads as they would never stay so carried on as before (feet no shorter). horse went int lame again couple of months later re xrayed (on insurance) looked much same as before. farrier reluctanly put basic pads on also took out of nb shoes had worn for 5yrs vet seemed to think gd idea to continue with. and insisted it wasnt her feet stayed sound for 3 months ish then when q. lame up to 5/6 10ths consistanlty got refered to ortho specillist at vets managed to get nerve block done showed it was bk of feet. recomened pads and shortend feet (like other vet suggested several months ago!) insisted use remidial farrier as mine hadnt done his job. this was done and the vets contacted my farrier he was fine about it with my vet said happy to take bk over etc.
I then see my farrier at yard who proceeds to give me a hard time over her feet making negative comments on what had been done slagging the vets saying they were just money grabbing (they have been the total opposite) there would be no point as she would never be sound! this upset me somewhat! had to have hinds done following wk after which decided to change. when doing hind said no longer wanted to do her fronts as someone else had done them.
have since changed farriers (new one doing a very gd job) new farrier and old one DONT get on from few years bk. have just found out from freind that still has old farrier that he said " she could have had the decentcy to change to a deceint farrier i mean that proffessinaly not personally".(vets recommnded farrier) then continued to slag vets again!
was gona try and talk to farrier about the matter but barely got a hello and decided i would get nowere.

i feel this behaviour is very unproffessional and wondered what others thought? and would you do anything?
sorry its so long and rambing just me this was the short version!!!!

Ignore him, if he hasnt done his job properly, then he deserves it. he had several chances, and didnt take them, so sod him! It is unpro, but if new and old have fallen out previously new one isnt going to be bothered either!??

He just sounds like a bitter know-it-all, ignore him and continue to do what's best for your horse

mine threw all of his toys out of the pram after using him for 5 years!! when there was a mix up at the yard his fault (he wrote the wrong date on a card abd wrote it in his diary wrong so came at wrong time!)and now refuses to shoe my horse. Didn't tell me that just left message on my phone!!

Anyway got a new wonderfful farrier who is cheaper than my old one and my ex-racers ffeet are SO much better!!

Some times it's a blessing in disguise falling out with them!

farriers are a sensaitive species! had mine for ten years before he had his paddy! the thing i found worsed of all was the attitude towards me and the slaging off of the vets which was totaly unacceptable and there was no need to bring the new farrier into it.
i have been ignoring it but feel it has now gone to far.

Read one of P Ramey or J Jackson book and go barefoot - your horse will thank you for it ! That's what happens when owners throw their toys out of the pram !

Also had trouble with a farrier yday!

(Post Farriers in Veterinary) Been using him for over a year and all of a sudden he lost his temper with one of my horses yday. I just hope I can find a decent replacement.
