I am so angry with mine and now enough is enough...
I was due to leave early last tue for holiday, asked for an early appointment - 8am, farrier could not do any earlier, rang him on the thursday before to check all was well and would be arriving but got no call back which is normal.
Waiting down the field till 8.30 and still no sign, in the end let the horses off and went home...on driving up the dual carriage way notice him driving down to my field...was so angry left it and have not bothered to call him to re-arrange...in fact he has not turned up twice before and when I re-book him he acts as if nothing ever happened...my horses back feet seem to grow quicker inside and give them a slight pidegon toe effect so wondering if he is any good anyhow...he takes about 20 mins to do trims on both and once with my husband he didnt even smooth the nail over....he is cheap and they have never gone lame...
I believe it is best to go with another farrier...what do you think ...?
Any one know a good one in Newbury Berks - or Berks who would come to newbury...?

I use Karn Herbet, he has shod all of of ours very well and shoes many on our yard. We are Maidenhead and he is from Hampshire I think. I can PM you his number if you like

I think you get the time delay with all farriers, mine is a family friend and very well known, he makes fab shoes and I have always been prepared to wait about for him, I think the trick is to realise that when they say 3pm normal time, they really mean 4.30pm farrier time.

Mine insists on comming at 7.30am ! and has been known to be early ! Lovely on a summers morning, but mine live out so not too good trying to catch horses on a dark hillside in the winter ! I moan about having to get up early, but it actually works well.

Mines ace. Always does my girls as his last call because I work. He's usually there before me by about 10 mins, but waits and if I run into a problem (say traffic) will catch them for me and make a start and is really patient with my horses. He even used to kneel down on the floor because my really old pony (rip) wasn't able to lift her legs very high or for to long in the end, so he'd kneel down on the ground to help her. Wouldn't change for the world.

Mine is PERFECT!!! always on time, lovely person, fun and does a wonderfull job, nothing is too much trouble. I would never change as he sorted my last horse full length sandcrack out when even the vets couldnt do anything for it, it was so bad it had split right up to her leg and was bleeding.

Mine's wonderful, he's good with the horses & does a fantastic job. He's very rarely late & calls me if he's going to be early, though that could just be to make sure the kettle's on!

My horse was done today, but the farrier did not put the stud holes in the back shoes that I asked him too.

Note to self: texting him instructions is not sufficient to remind him of something!

Mine is brill, has never been late, is lovely to merlin and always does as asked. Will start before I get there, sometimes Im not there at all, but merlin is in, and never worries about having money on the day!!

He is great!!! I spend my life worrying that he will disappear!!!

Blimey - I think I should of held out and married a farrier and then a vet second time round!!
My OH is better with computers...!
I dont mind waiting but my farrier knew on that day I was going on hols and it was so frustrating....
I know not to rely on them and have been let down loads of times with them..did have a good one but moved out of the area so gutted he could not carry on...
thanks everyone for your comments - sounds like most of you have great farriers :0)

Grrr...mine was 3 and 1/4 hours late last night!!! Phoned him after an hour, he said he would be 30 minutes... Hah. He then had the cheek to growl at my horse and threaten her with a smack cos she didnt stand stock still - well I'm not suprised given how long I'd had to keep her in for. Annoying! Feel like changing but he is the yard "resident" and I'd be bound to bump into him all the time. And his work is good (unfortunately?)
