Farriery, is this the right place?

Hey, sorry if this is the wrong place to post..

My name is Ashley and I have wanted to become a farrier since first getting into horses when i was younger.
I have been living in Cyprus for the last 8 years, working as a groom for the last 3 at a millitary base stables so havent been able to start any form of farrier related work apart from assisting the resident farriers. The farrier standards out here are sadly appauling so I wish to train in the UK.
I'm due to move back to the UK at the end of the week and im hoping to follow my long time dream of being a farrier, I am a qualified metalworker so used to working in hot uncomfortable positions and dont think i will do the access to farriery course unless it is highly recomended i do so? and i should be able to pass the forgework exam without a problem if i dont.
the questions I have are,
Is the 'Farriery Access Course' worth it? and what college do you think is best?
Do you have any recommendations on where to sit/study the forgework exam?
Right now I cant think of the many questions I have, any more advice would be very much appreciated!

My boyfriend is starting college in Feb and has just earned his place as a reserve for the Welsh farrier team. You have to do your pre-farriery course and find at ATF that will take you before you can apply to college. College intakes are January and September and unless you get your name down now you will b looking at next January before a space becomes available.

He was going to go to Myrescough college but the best lecturer has now moved to Herefordshire. The other thing you may find tricky is the funding. It is very limited to anyone who doesn't reside in England for a few years, is over 21 and isn't a girl. I think the whole course is £12,000
 
Thanks for the reply. I know I need to find an ATF, I'm hoping to have found my legs and started at least a pre-apprenticeship course by this time next year. Because i was doing an apprenticeship with the military I have moved here with the military and it is still classed as british soil so again im lucky in that aspect.

One of the instructors at the stables here recomended Myrescough as that is where she did her training. Im not fussed on what college i go to, as long as it is a good one, ive heared good things about herefordshire too.
