Hiya All
I recently had my horses front shoes taken off about 2 weeks ago thinking i was doing the best thing (Naively)
Anyhoo it's not worked out as he is very very footsore on his fronts with slight heat in them. The vet has told me to have the shoes back on but the farrier is not able to come for another 8 days.
My boy has already been in for 4 days on deep bedding but i just wondered if there was something i could give him to make him slightly more comfortable until then? I know most things take time to kick in so if anyone has any advise?
Thank you :-)

Has he been charging around since having them off? Has he got a digital pulse? Has the vet seen him or given phone advice? Do not get shoes put back on - banging nails into inflamed sore feet is like putting a plaster on a bullet wound.

Devils claw is the only off the shelf you could try - you want the liquid form as its faster acting than herb.

Two weeks is no time to let his feet recover from shoes. What is the matter with his feet? You can boot him for a while or even tape on some pads for the time being.

I'm really upset with myself for making this naive mistake!!
Can't wait to get the shoes back on and going to give him some nature bute recommended to me.
My poor boy x

er hello read the replies ! All are saying NOT to put shoes back on fps. You've done the hard bit give him some time to acclimatise to the change.

The vet and farrier have both told me to put them back on so please no nasty replies.
The question was about anti inflammatory supplements.
Thank you everyone for your replies

If the vet told you to put the shoes back on get some bute from him.
You do realise that a horse thats that foot sore when it's shoes removed is not healthy don't you .

He is foot sore due to the ground being very gravely - please can you stop attacking me for asking for some advise.
I am following vets advise now - the reason i was not given bute from vet as he thought the farrier would be able to get to me sooner.

Sjb, just call the vet and explain that the farrier can't come and please can you have some bute, it shouldn't be a problem if the vet has seen him, and probably won't be much dearer than the devils claw.

No ones attacking you ,I find your attitude very odd .
So what's the big issue just get some bute and keep the horse off the gravel.
I don't understand why this is such a problem surely you realised the horse might be very sore .

Golden star I expected my horse to be a bit sore, but the tyrant lay down and refused to get up the first night, i had to feed him his tea with bute in with him lay down. Horses!

the other thing is that they can be a bit fussy eating devils claw, i have to introduce it really slowly - so if he really does need painkiller etc bute may be better

What about some hoof boots??? maybe that will ease the soreness and then you can try to build up his hoof strength in the meantime until the ground gets softer and you can try to leave them off.
