I've had to take my lamanitic mare off her speedibeet now the spring grass is here. All the weight I've managed to get back on her is gone within a few weeks :( obviously going into spring I don't want her fat but she's too skinny. I'm struggling to find a balance with her, the sugarbeet makes her footy and sore but when she's not getting it she's down/ skinny
Ive heard good things about fast fibre so want to know if anyone has used it in this kind of situation and how much it costs roughly for a bag?
Thanks :)

I use it successfully on a laminitic who couldn't tolerate beet of alfalfa, it's about £8.50, but a bag lasts ages.

Does she need any feed?

I use FF for my old boy and also a small scoop to mix minerals with for my good doer - but none of my horses are lami prone.

I am using unmolassed hay chaff too - merchants can get it easily when you ask for it.

How about Spillers High Fibre cubes. They are approved by laminitis trust and have a put more in them for weight gain than Fast Fibre

I have heard good things about Spillers High Fibre Cubes - but I would take anything the Laminitis Trust approves with a pinch of salt. The feed companies pay for that endorsement. Just because something flies under the sugar and starch radar, doesn't make it suitable for a horse prone to lami :(

Tbh I can't see how speedibeet makes your horse footy!! It's very low sugar and no starch and tbh I could understand if the healthy hooves was to blame as it's got molasses in it. Sugar/starch wise speedibeet is the better out the 2.
But if it is the un mollassed beet you won't want to feet fast fibre as it's 2 main ingrediants are beet and straw. If you want to add weight safety have u tried the unmollesed range that dengie do?

Oberon - yup, she's a ridiculously poor doer for a welsh, the only thing that puts weight on her is grass and now she's on even more restricted grazing it's impossible :( she's in a bald field for a few hours a day and gonna be muzzled during that time soon so all the food she will be getting is soaked hay and feed. I think she would be okay with a bit of sugarbeet, il give it a go anyway :)

Can u add micro linseed? That's very high calaries but without anything to harm her.
Is she ok with alfa a? If so the oil version will put weight on a laminitic safety

Theoretically it shouldn't, I agree, but it certainly sends my mare off her head and footy! Mine is fine on fast fibre but not speedibeet.

I have never been more confused than trying to work out what to feed lami ponies every company has a answer. That's why I've asked on here as its from real horse owners point of view - not what's written on the bag :)
Think I'll give fast fibre a go thanks everyone!

How rude of her to be poor AND laminitic - that's just unfair.

FF can be worth a go but it does contain beet - so be aware of that.

You could try soya oil for weight if that doesn't work.

Have you looked at getting some minerals into her?

We've been finding a consistent low copper with analysis', which (among other things) is important for insulin production and control.

I'm also a fan of linseed - it contains Omega 3 and 6 in the same ratios as grass but without the unpredictable sugar levels. If she is restricted access to grass, then linseed would be a helpful addition to her diet.

Supplementing Vitamin E is recommended for horses like your girl too (a 1000iu capsule squeezed into her feed).

I don't know if she is diagnosed with Cushings or Insulin Resistance - but feeding for such may be helpful to her.

and have you heard about the new iPhone app?

I hope you find it successful with your mare.
It sounds a good feed, and not expensive.
But ive tried my gelding on it twice, he doesnt like it!
Its too mushed up!
