My young horse is currently on D&H Competition Country mix but I feel she is still lacking energy. She lives out 24/7, is fit and ridden 6/7 days a week. Her workload is varied between hacking, schooling sessions, lunging etc.

So can anyone recommend a fast release feed that will give her the extra energy that she needs. She prefers mixes/muesli to cubes.

Well I dont know - she currently gets 3 scoops of the mix a day plus Simple System feeds too as fibre. As she can be picky with her feed I didnt want to over face her with her feed. I work full time so I cant split her feed into more than 2.

I fetch her straight in, and ride her from the field. She has access to field shelters should she want to go in for a sleep. The field she is on isnt long/lush. There are currently 3 on it, its eaten off but with lots on still but I do strip graze.

That could well be your problem.

Have you tried having her in for an hour or so before you ride her. It could make all the difference.

I would. When I first got my new horse I deliberately rode him straight from the field as most of them are far more dozier - and I am a preservationist at heart.

Now I know him better he stands in for a couple of hours before I ride - He is a much more lively person from being off the grass and not stuffing his face for a while.

3 scoops a day is quite a lot, so it doesn't sound to me as if she needs more, just perhaps something with a bit more oomph in it.

You could try the next one up from the Country Mix, not sure what D&H call it. Or you could add some Naked Oats. You probably would only need to add half a scoop per day to make a difference.

Or there's that Spillers Quick Release Mix, haven't used it myself, but sounds like it could be good for you.
