Hi
Hope every1 had a good xmas and New year!
Just been looking on the BE website and realised they have raised the age of being free to compete in any class including Novice, last year it was as soon as you were 16, now its including the whole year in which you are 17!
Last year i competed my horse who hadnt done it before in 6 Novices/ JRNs and completed them all happily and safely and all but one occassion clear XC. I was 16 in April and from then i was free to do Novice but now am not as just got a new horse who has also done Novices and they have raised the age. Do you think they would fast track me as otherwise i would have to start again doing PN until a near JRN comes round which would be Llanymynech which its ages away as you have to do a JRN before an actual Novice! My new horse has also completed 3 novices, 2 with clear xc and came 7th in 1.
I am soo annoyed!

i am very annoyed about this rule...i had hell trying to get fast tracked last year. it depends on whioch area you are in as to how easy it is to be fast tracked as well!!!

if you go and have an assessment with a BE trainer, won't they be able to recommend you for fast-tracking?
it seems a very strange rule, esp the one about doing a JRN first... surely any N is the same xc as a JRN, so what's the point of that rule?

The reason for doing a JRN first is because the co-ordinaqtors are there and want to check you are safe to go XC. It has been known for someone to be pulled after SJ.

On saying that they are quite pragmatic about it - because of all the cancellations last year they let my daughter do her first Novice at Sapey because although they weren't running a JRN the co-ordinator was there to watch her.

Ring your area co-ordinator. He/she must know you from last year and will probably be able to advise/help. Good luck

So I'm 17 in June... does this mean that I am restricted all year????

If I get permission to do certain events from an accredited trainer etc am I allowed to do them??

sorry, bit of a shock haha

My trainer did exactly that and the coordinator made a song and a dance about it! and this wasnt about doing a novice it was just about PN so absolutely ridiculous.

UPDATE... Hi
Phoned up the JRN Coordinater and she was very helpful! She said that if i get accredited straight away to novice level i can compete at novice but still have to do a JRN/JON first. When i told her my problem of not having one near for ages and not wanting to travel too far if we do muck it up and she told me that for the Wales and Borders she is hoping to add a JON class at Kelsall Hill, which would solve my problem! She also said that if she for some reason cant ad a JON class there she could give me permission to compete at a out of region comp as places like Aston Le Wells are actually closer to us than the 1st JRN at Chepstow. So fingers crossed they get a JON class at Kelsall!
Thanks

Ok i havent read my rule book yet so could some one explain to me in simple english what this new updated rule about competing novice before you are 17 is pretty please

Will i be ok as all our JRNs are at the beginning of the season?

From BE website:
When you want to start competing at JRN and novice level then you must register with your Regional Coordinator.

Riders in the year of their 17th birthday and under may only compete at Novice Level once a horse/pony and rider combination has achieved the qualification to compete at novice level (three PN Clear XC with no more than 12 SJ penalties). Their first novice competition must be in a Pony Trial, JRN or JON. In order to be given a free rein at novice level you must complete this first novice with no more than 20 cross country jumping penalties.

As I said earlier - if in doubt, talk to your co-ordinator, I'm sure he/she will help
