Hi all, just lost a foal a couple weeks ago, my insurance has been actually very fast and helpful with the vet fees leading up to having to euth. It is extremely likely they will cover the mortality claim as well based on how quickly they accepted the vet claim and discussions with their head vet leading up to having to euth.
Anyway, a bit of a sad question, but what's the fastest payout you've ever seen from any insurance company with the value insured?
My foal was insured to a pretty high value, and I've got a lot of bills to pay now from full livery whilst sick, removal costs, personal expenses etc. Knowing whether it could be a week vs 5 weeks would be helpful.
Insurance just said 'aiming for as fast as possible.
Thanks!

Mine took 3 weeks - it was a relatively straightforward case, and I felt that was a fair turnaround. We had agreed the PTS in advance and that it qualified for the payment, so not sure if that helped with timeframes.

Depends what company you are with,
I've had 2 mortaltiy claims in the last few years. The first was with Petplan and paid out within a month, the second was with KBIS and paid out withing 2 weeks!

I’m sorry about your foal.
With a reputable company then I’d expect they pay out within 4 weeks provided that they agree with the sum insured relatively easily.

10 days - NFU

Thank you all so much for your responses...really helpful.
It was pretty straightforward and the decision to euth was discussed ahead of time, 'approved' by them as much as it can be- their head vet agreed with my vet (also head of the practice) over the phone that it was a welfare issue.
10 days or 2 weeks would be really amazing!

Mine was much longer, but it was an accident rather than a euthanasia, and then we had a dispute about the cost horse was insured for (which we did win but took a while). Have since moved companies as they were unnecessarily difficult and unreasonable throughout the whole process.

Not mortality, but the first time I had to claim from General Accident for some expensive diagnostic work (nerve blocks, scintigraphy) done at Glasgow Vet School on my TB Lucky, I posted the claim form on a Thursday and received a cheque through the post the following Monday! I had phoned GA to inform them of my intention to claim, but I was still astonished how quickly they managed to process it. This was in the late 80s.

Some years later, I claimed again on Lucky's GA insurance for some emergency surgery. This time they were sticky about the vet's report because it didn't have an official practice stamp (duh!). Once that was rectified they again paid out promptly - although not quite as quickly as the first time.

Can I ask how much the dispute was over- a matter of a few hundred quid, or more substantial difference in what they said and you thought horse was worth?
Don't suppose you want to say which insurance company it was?

I would try not to worry about how quickly the insurance pay out.
If its a straight forward case then they should payout in a month.
Any bills you have, the companies should give you 28 days to pay them any way and if you speak to them they may give you longer to pay or let you pay a small amount as a token.

I hope its sorted quickly and straight forward for you.
Sorry about the loss of your foal.

More substantial. I can't remember the exact amount but it was about £2000-£3000 difference. Horse was insured for mortality cover for the amount we tried to claim, but they tried to say that she wouldn't be worth that at market value. The dispute process was very drawn out and they were very difficult and awkward to deal with. Luckily both my parents are lawyers so knew what they were talking about, but would have been awful for a lot of other people without that experience. The company is now called Equicover, but they used to be Am-Trust.

Interesting, thanks for sharing your experience!

Took couple of months for them to pay me.
're the livery costs tho, check they are included as sometimes insurance all pay extra livery costs or 50%

Nfu. Vet rang and they approved before he was pts. They paid out the £5k vet fees almost immediately and agreed they would pay for pts but various stalling tactics to pay out

about 3 months!

the case was staightforward however trying to 'prove' that we owned the horse wasnt easy. We'd have him 15 years in which time he'd alys been insured with the same company, didnt have the receipt for purchase and bought him before, you had to have a passport. he was passported (when it was introduced) but it only had us in it, no history.

took a while, but we got there.

NFU took about 3 weeks after pts following colic surgery, however only got half amount he was valued for. Vets fees to £5K were paid directly & death insurance paid for the balance.

If anyone curious, my company ended up posting the check two days after they got the completed claim. For full amount he was insured less the rest of the annual premium (I paid monthly, so hadn't paid for the full year yet). It was fairly delayed in post due to snow- not their fault of course!
