Fat eye :(

Gosh, that is so unlucky to have had uveitis AND then this too! Poor horse and poor you as well. Our appy is a uveitis sufferer and it can be a nightmare, do feel for you.

Hope all goes well with the thorn removal, best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Sorry maybe I was rambling. He hasn’t had it. We lost a lovely youngster to it some years ago so it’s something I really fear and hope never to deal with again.

It’s out! luckily it had gone in on bit of an angle so not as deep as it could have been.
They were pleased with how it went and apparently he was a saint. I’d never expect anything less of him! He’s a complete sweetheart.
He hopefully can come home tomorrow but will be on antibiotics and pain killers for the next, I want to say few months but surely she said weeks ?‍♀️
Anyhow, it’s gone as well as it can and now it’s a case of keeping on top on inflammation and pain.

Ace news!

I just want to say, and I know it’s probably wasted here as we are all a bit more sensible but this case really does show. A innocent looking swollen eye can be something terrible. This would have been a lost eye had I left it. So many FB posts about sore eyes and so many replies saying bath it. Put a fly hood on etc etc
Don’t. Please get a vet. I couldn’t see a thorn, neither could the vet for ages but it was there and this would be a pony in agony and ultimately with one eye had it been left even a bit longer.
Maybe having a uvietis horse was a good thing. I will never take a chance and if someone reads this and does the same it’s a win situation.

Yay! Glad he's okay. I understand what a worry it can be. Trev (serial self-harming ex racer) came in with an eye swollen up like a grapefruit once, just at the time that Your Horse had a 5 page spread on horses losing eyes, & I had several sleepless nights worrying (and did call the vets straight away). Fingers crossed for a quick recovery!

This shows why you don’t mess with eyes and faff at home first. Well done on having the vet straight out and I’m glad that so far he’s being a good patient and it’s going ok.

exactly I’d if left it , even til tomorrow he would have lost his eye

Ahh how kind thank you!
He’s opening cards before going to put diesel in the lorry so we don’t have to stop on the way and asking (several times already) what time the vet will ring, what time can we go? ?
I also over heard him on the phone to his friend who’d obviously asked what plans were today that we were going out but now he just really needs to go get Bubbles home and settled ?? soft idiot!

Many years ago I had an incredibly painful eye, went to Works doctor who couldn't see anything but then rolled my eyelid back and found a tiny speck stuck to the eyelid. Once removed pain went away. That was horrendously painful so your poor pony must have been suffering much worse. So glad he is on the mend.

Glad its all been sorted and hope Bubbles has a speedy recovery.

Ours had a very swollen eye which she couldn't open last week. We called the vet straight away. It turned out there was a scratch and a tiny ulcer there which thankfully cleared within a couple of days treatment. We are totally paranoid about anything going on with her eye as she only has one and no spare now! I apologised to the vet for our paranoia and she insisted that we were right to call them immediately if there was a problem with eyes.
