fat horses

Limiting grazing = Limiting Exercise = extra weight!

Horses need space to exercise themselves.

It really bothers me to see horses confined in areas often smaller than a dressage arena. IMO this is poor management.

My pony was exercised 5/6 times a week on a pretty bare paddock, is not fat and still got laminitis:(

Sadly he is an area half the size of a dressage arena as he won't eat or drink with a grazing muzzle on. So I think it depends on the circumstances.

He is happier in a small area than he is with a grazing muzzle on.

This time of year is the worst time of year for grass richness, and because all of our horses are barefoot we build a track system, 1 to keep them moving, 2 to help with keeping there feet like bullets, 3, so i know what is actually going down there faces, just a quick thought provoking question, would you feed a horse 2 kilo's of sugar a day? probably not! thats what an average horse is consuming in an 8 hour period, i do let mine out in the middle of the tracks once a day for an hour or 2, , but i mainly stick to good hay, linseed and salt,

this is the best picture we have, i think its wrong to have fat horses, it seems to me that when a horse is well and just on the cusp of seeing rib aka perfect that some people have more of a problem with that, good luck with sorting your lad out,
