Robin produced a fat leg when he came in on Monday. I had seen him twating about in field with his buddy. Vet had a look at it on Tuesday. Happy there is no tendon or ligament issues and that he has either been kicked or knocked himself. He decided that as Robin has had so much treatment, medication and proding, and as it wasn’t sore or lame we would not do anything bar watching.

His back legs do fill standing in but not the fronts and by this time of year he has to be in for a good few days before filling.

He stayed in on Tuesday. On wed he went out, stuck that leg through the fence and pulled back. He paused and twisted and got himself off and trotted off very lame. I burst into tears as this is how I lost Soli and could see the same happening. However when I went to get him (he had been out approx 5mins) he trotted off sound. Brought him in and couldn’t find any injury.

Stayed in wed after disaster of fence.

Leg hasn’t really gone down swelling wise. Last night was definitely fatter. Gave him 2 Danilon and started his no fill again and thought it was due to standing in. Turned out this morning in the snow for approx 3 hours. Seemed perfectly sound trotting through the snow. Tonight it is fatter and a bit hot again. Looked to be waking ok but impossible to trot up with all the snow and ice. Rang the vet to ask if I could give Danilon safely with all his meds. Yes. So 2 Danilon tonight and 1 twice a day sag and sun.

I’m feeling very beaten by everything. Nothing is going right and we are lurching from one issue to another. I initially thought tendon but vet tried very hard and no pain. Not quite sure what else to do. I would probably cold hose but no way to do that just now. Perhaps it might thaw on Sunday.

I will be keeping everything crossed for Robin and you xxx

Have you spoken to the vet about some sort of pick me up flush type of thing? I know when my boy had a bout of one thing after the other (abscess, lung issue, lymphangitis) i was recommended to give him a liver flush thing, i can't remember the name of it though. It was a store bought item that i gave for a week or two again i can't remember the details, but if it won't hinder it may not hurt.

Happy to do anything! Bloods showed liver ok tho. He had a “blood tonic” from vet for the anaemia. I have also got an equine touch person coming to see him as a it can’t hurt thing.

This time last year my boy has a fat back leg. He doesn't go out in winter so unlikely to have injured it. I had taken him for a ride in the woods a few days before so wondered if he had done something there, so treated it with cold therapy etc. No change. I then found the tiniest scab, mudfever!! Treated as such and leg went down in days. Hoping for the best for you and Robin x

I have just realised. I started protexin quick fix on Tuesday. I then stuck it in the storage chest to try and not let it freeze and have forgotten to give him it since. Useless!

Neither vet or I could find a nick. As first suggestion was cellulitis. He has had it in a back leg a couple of times. However he had just been in a 4 week course of antibiotics which finished on Tuesday and the swelling was there Monday.
