Ok, so were do people with fat legs go for boots that don't have to be made to measure?!?? My calves are 17.5" round (Eek) and nowhere will do them for a size 6 feet....
Those would only be a 14.5" calf. in cm you'd need boots of 45cm calf to fit a 17.5". Also remember the calf measurement is taken on the outside of the boot so the inside measurement could be up to 2 cm smaller. Also you have to allow for wearing your breeches/jods so you may have to add to the measurement!
I know I have wide calves! Mountain Horse do a wide fitting boot and Ariat half chaps go up to 17.5", sorry these are the expensive options! Don't know of any other boot manufacturers that do a proper wide fitting in leather, most say that 15.5" to max 16" is wide. Derby House wide chaps are 14"!! There are some rubber boots that come up wide. As for leather unless you go for made to measure, there's not much choice off the shelf, but you'd have to win the lottery for that! I have wide calves and long legs but found in the past that manufacturers tend to make wide fitting boots too short. Also why do they think that calf measurements get huge the bigger the foot you have? I am a size 5.5/6 but I would have to go for a mens size 11 to get the right calf fitting!! DOH!
If there's any boot manufacturers reading this take note, there's been several posts on here re people not getting boots wide enough or having to have them altered to fit after purchase!
I have 15inch calves and i wear the wide Mountain Horse Richmond High Riders. They are too wide for me(but look fine) and are supposed to fit people with up to 18 inch calves!
Just get gaiters, and short boots, i think they look just as smart, and you gan always get them to fit properly. IMO good fitting gaiters and boots look LOADS better than bad fitting long boots!
I have the same problem so went for gaitors instead. The English Gaitor Company do them in a huge range of sizes and they fit my 17.1/2 calves really well.
I got the Equitector long boots (with the 10% discount for BHS membership
), can honestly say they're the best boots I've ridden in, I never seem to lose a stirrup iron - they have some special balancing thingy in them and help your lower leg position. Nice non-slip soles on them too and they keep your feet warm.
