Fat or big riders... on small horses...

Please as Dubble has said, lets live and let live.
I feel that SB posted in light of a pic I posted and TBH I did see it as personal attack and have not posted in here till now. I dont feel that there was a need to start 4 posts and start a character assassnation.
I think and I hope that SB has got the idea and she has said sorry a number of times.
Lets put it to bed eh?

I'm big but i'm ride - I love my horse more than anything in the world and would never like to do something to make him unhappy/uncomfortable. Sometimes I feel worried about riding my horse and what people will think and i'm obviosuly right because people like you that make me think that ! I have had times when riding along when people have shouted fatty at me (not nice). Anyway i'm off to the farm now to muck out ! I'll try lose some more weight so not to offend you further. (and yes I have taken this personally).

I'm with you on this one! I too am big and ride - I expect after this Summer at County Shows with my much loved Show Cob no -one will want me to inflict the photos on the Picture Gallery? I wouldn't want to offend anyone

I just replied because she originally said that I PMed her saying she was too fat the ride Castle... and I didn't say that.

Oh for goodness sake, this is one of the most boring subjects that comes up on here TIME AND TIME AGAIN

Please, nobody, bring this one up again for a long time.

"I'm 8 1/2 stone, 5'9 and ride a 17.3 WB. Do you think I'm too fat for him?" (Yawn...)

I totally agree, used to know a 14st girl who had a 15.2hh TB - the poor thing had a bad back, an ill fitting saddle and not an ounce of fat/muscle on it. Eventually it started bucking her off and she couldn't understand why!

Oh for goodness sake.....
why not have all people over 7 stone pts and be done. I'm sure the world will be better for it. Full of self obsessed vain individuals who go and 'buy' the perfect body.

Having now read all the other posts....

all you larger riders who have posted pictures are riding appropriate horses - cobs and heavier breeds who are built to carry weight. I think that was Starbucks' point in the first place.

secondly, this thread is rapidly becoming rather offensive to thin people too. A slim, well balanced rider with a good seat and good hands, on a horse or pony that suits their height and wears a correctly fitting saddle will still cause less damage to the horse than a heavy rider, regardless of how good their seat and balance might be.

Starbucks I remember when you sent me numerous PMs saying I was too fat for Castle .

Are you serious? What a charmer........

[/ QUOTE ] Are we to conclude from that comment that her weight was the problem? If she weighed less and it had an ill fitting saddle and no muscle/fat on its back, not doubt it wouldn't suffer a bad back

Stella - the horse was bought as a show horse, it came with tack. In the 9 months that she owned it its back was trashed, and it changed shape to the extent that its saddle no longer fitted. I have no doubt that it was down to her being too heavy and a pretty poor rider to boot. wish i could post a pic to prove my point!

Sarah; I've seen the same thing and yes it was most certainly down to the heavyness of the rider. Horse was perfect before and it did end up fine a while after the fat rider sold it.

So I completely agree that there really is no need for fat/big riders to remain on unsuitable horses who are not physically equipped to carry them.

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments re: Castle and I

I'll copy and paste one of the PMs you sent me SB and then we'll see if you were referring to my weight or not

Here you go...

I'm sure he would be happier with a smaller rider!! I'm sorry, but people on here are too polite!! you look to weigh about 10 stone FFS!!! you should be on a horse not a 12.2!!!

other people might be more bothered about your feelings but i'm worried about castle - you ARE waaayy too big for him!! Let him go and move on!! Do you want him to start refusing to jump or wanting to chuck you off befor you let go??

We all find it hard, but your time with castle should have finished long ago IMO.

Aww that isn't nice

.

I think you were starting to get too big for Castle too, but you realised that, and your biggest problem was that you adored that little pony soooo much that I think it was very very hard for you to let go. Perfectly understandable if you ask me.

Horses were never designed to carry any weight we have made them carry us over the years! No small pony should carry a 13st person who cannot balance and sits like a heavy bag of spuds. If someone carries themselves correctly it may be a different story. I personally hate heavy people on small ponies especially if they have weak backs due to incorrect schooling. I have seen heavy people ride and it aint pretty! The ponies legs nearly gave way! I am 9st and I've ridden 13hh ponies even I feel they struggle slightly so imagine a 13st person! I'll stick with my 15.2

Least tactful PM sent to a 14yo ever?
smirk.gif

Regardless of the topic, I am horrified that SB sent such a nasty PM - it was written in a nasty, bitchy manner IMO and is not how I would expect an adult to speak to a 14yo

Well, at the time that this photograph was taken, I weighed 13 st 8 lb. Am I too big for my lightweight 15.2 Arab X SF?

Golly that PM was horrid

CastleMouse, I had no idea you were only 14?!?!
I think SB has done herself some serious damage here these past couple of days, apology or not.
frown.gif

I didn't realise you were 14 Castlemouse, I thought you were about 20 odd, that is one nasty PM to send to anyone, but it is worse to send to a teenager, who at that age; hormones are allover the place and it could lead to someone getting anorexia

Not long term damage I hope. I would have thought that most people on here are willing to forgive the ramblings of a young person trying to find their way in the world. It's how we all learn and become more broad-minded; by being picked up on these things and be given other peoples perspectives is the best way.

I have every faith in Bucky coming out of it the other side, as I am confident that although CM would have been very upset about receiving such a mean PM, she will also have learned that not everything everyone says in life is nice and you have to learn to get over it. Shame it happened to such a nice girl though....

as to the add its self
i think you need to think in future about what these comments
would do
i think you had the intrest of the animals welfare at heart but im sure people know when its wrong and i dont think no one would put there horses under any kind of strain .
i think comments like this needs to be keep to yourself as these can really be very nasty if it was intent or not

Thanks CM. Notice you haven't bothered to post the PM's where I apologised and you accepted it!! Talk about dragging up the past, it must have been nearly a year ago since I sent you that PM. Have you just been saving it for an opportunity to post it on here??
confused.gif
I did refer to your weight but weight is a rather essential part of being too big for a pony/horse - I never said you were fat!!!

Anyway, I'm probably just digging myself into a deeper hole so I'll shut up now.
