Is it just me, or does the horse on P 14 of this weeks H & H look one of the fattest things you've ever seen? Nice to see it placed first at HOYS!

I think you'll find that one of the people who rides for Jayne Webber is on here, and will be able to set the record straight for you about it.

Its 'The Keystone Cob' owned by Jane webber and Carol Bardo, and of course it placed considering them pair own it and Jane rides it, nothing remotely suprising there!

[/ QUOTE ]

What do you mean by that? I didn't see that class at HOYS, but I have no doubt that the horse won because it went the best on the day and was considered the best in the class. If team Bardo/Webber win a lot, it's because they really do have the best show cobs in the country.

I think it is a proven fact that professional producers tend to do better than amateurs.....'waits for the tirade

But I don't think that is the issue in this post at all.

From the angle pictured, that particular horse does look overweight IMO. Handsome, but overweight.

meaning that they are a very sucsessfuln owner rider pairing, dont get out your bloody pram, jeesus!!!!

[/ QUOTE ]

There is no need to swear at me. Thanks for such a mature response.

Regardless of who it is, i can well believe it is overweight, all too common, views are distorted it seems about what is healthy.
I just hope any fat show cobs, whether amateur or professional owners, do not fall foul of some related illness such as laminitis just to give them lots of cover for the ring!!

I'm not 'getting out of my pram'. Just offering my opinion thats all.

They are a highly succesful team and have had some outstanding achievements this year.

Doesn't mean to say that that particular picture makes that cob look overweight though......

Didn't see the photo but of course producers are going to do better in same way as you would expect John Whittaker or other professional riders to beat the amateurs in their sport. I don't see anyone making a bit deal out of professional riders at the top level in SJ, dressage or eventing beating amateurs.

I must say that photo makes him look obese. I wonder if he really is that fat.

I will just add that I used to have a horse that had belonged to Carol Bardo & when I traced him back to her she was really nice & telephoned to tell me all about him after I wrote to her. I didn't realise what a big name she was then, but she took the time out to get in touch.

They will surely produce what the judges want to see weightwise, so the fault must lie there. They do have some stunning horses though.

I imagine also with cobs it is very easy to put the weight on and very hard to get it off once they get too fat. I know that is the case with my native pony.

Having seen their cobs in show condition, I can safely say they are not fat.

They are very large, stocky, muscular horses who can be ridden in trot/canter for 3+ hours without effort.

I had assumed they would be very fat before I saw them, but soon realised it wasn't fat at all.

Yep, totally agree...

if you think thats swearing you clearly lead a very sad life! get over yourself .

[/ QUOTE ]

Well it was swearing - bloody is a swear word.

Another immature response pretty much sums everything up for me. You can't have a rational debate with someone when they start hurling sad insults like this - poor little dear.

Anyway, this is completely beside the point! Back to the topic..

Its disgusting to see such fat horses still getting placed!!! Its no that many years one of our top show riders lost a horse to a heart attack because it was so fat! Cantered down the field and dropped dead!!

sorry but is there really any need for this??

one persons comment on a photo doesnt need to lead to playground squabbling, if you dont agree, just zip it!

and hey im sure we all have a 'fat' angle hehe

(^^, just to lighten moment) and ( im expressing no opinion

We show our 22 year old cob as fit and lean as we can get him, he is solid muscle. These cobs are deceiving, even though they look big/fat in a photo, they are often solid. We get a lot of complements about his condition v's his age.

Although we haven't yet won a cob class, we do get placed in the top 4, even at county. I would love to compete him against professionals, I would take it as a complement I was at that level to be in a ring with them.

Their cobs are not fat but true cobs - ie. Wide and deep girthed! They are truely muscely.

That particular photo isn't the most flattering tbh, but I am sure the light dosent help as well as the angle

FMM's horses are proper show conditioned

I really like your attitude - I hope you win lots in the coming year!

It's sad it turned to 'playground squabling' - we all have different opinions on everything, if we all agreed it'd be a boring world! But some people can't seem to take disagreement very well, in which case they should think before they press reply!

Whcih means fat, surely?
I had an ex show cob a few years ago, when I bought him at the end of the season - he'd been to HOYs, he was soo fat his crest wobbled in walk and his bum was like a blancmange. Hopefully things have changed since then.
