Hi everyone,

I'm going to attempt to be brave!
So I have had such a battle with Maisie's weight, she was so thin when I bought her and we have finally filled out and are now working on muscles top line and neck muscles ..

But now I have had so many comments from other liveries telling me that she's fat! Now I can feel the last 2 ribs but they are not visible ..

I have now cut down her feed aswell as the grass is here, she is on 3/4 scoop of redmills cool n cooked which is fantastic and 1/2 of
Hifi which i will cut down more but i dont want to cut it down quickly i want to do it gradually. Here are some photos id like to see what you all think, please be nice :-)

She is ridden 4/5times a week so is quite fit at the moment ..

Here's one from before:

Thank you all in advance!

Okay so do you all think I should take her down to 1/2 of mix or keep her how she is? I'm just confused with all the fat comments? If her belly was bigger then her arse but it's not? Slightly confused with comments I've had?!

Another of the same! She's looking amazing, I think people assume TB's to look like racers? She has an amazing shine

Thank you everyone! It's just very puzzling! McNally: that could be true but a lot of racers are so fine still because the young ones havnt filled out properly, Maisie is 7 now I bought her as a 5year old and it has taken a good year to get her to how she is now and I'm trying to build up all her muscles now. She was so tiny when I bought her I was building her up gradually and now all of a sudden ive been told she's fat but because I see her everyday I have to take a step back and see what other people think and get advice from you all :-)

She's absolutely fine..I wonder if they were making rude comments before too?Well done tho she's looking super! If you reduce anything, do it v gradually 100grams at a time, particularly if shes a tricky one with her weight. I've just started using Omega Rice from Falcon Feeds(xmas time)..rice bran & micronised linseed..its excellent.if you have any worries email or ring them & they will advice you..postage currently free if you look on their site.20kgs for £26 and I've reduced her from 1000grams a day split over 4 feeds, to 300grms a day (split between feeds)with alpha a, vits and mins supplement and either grass nuts or sugar beet and have now stopped her barley till autumn, she look 6 not 26!she only has either or gras nuts or sugar beet as she HAS to have moist feed and I simply increase or decrease the amount according to work/weather.all my 5 are now on Omega and even tho all foodies, they will scoff the omega/mug you for it..my youngster now flings his bucket full of feed in a temper if i don't give him his Omega..he now has 50grams a day just to keep him happy..they all love it & look stunning on it and its really cut the quantity needed down as well as saving fortunes.I was uncertain at first but its excellent. oh..mine get oil and salt too..but each has selected a diff oil..one rapeseed, one vegetable, one soya, one sunflower and one olive oil..stupid me for giving them a choice as far as the space & bulk buying goes, but even that has made a difference-I even noticed changes soon after having one off sunflower and onto olive oil!Oh and the Omega only took 5 days to start showing positive changes. hope this helps..just adding its great for veterans/young/show/sales prep and fine long term.settled one of mine with a permanent stress tummy overnight and is beyond amazing for topline & maintaining muscle when combined with correct work...just to ad..they have not paid me to write this, i can't tell enough people! I'm shutting up now before I crash HHO!!:-)

SaharaS: that's really interesting! I think if I start to struggle with her then I'll look into this, she can't have any barley or anything like that because it goes straight through her :( thanks for the info it will come in handy :)

She does look fine now, but with the grass coming through i'd start cutting the feed myself so she doesn't gain a load over summer.

Ok cool thanks everyone, littlelegs: totally agree with you don't want her getting any bigger she's not made to be any bigger then what she is so defo going to start cutting hard feed down and hopefully with all the riding aswell it will also help fingers crossed :)

I'm so glad you did a post on here to get some comments and put your mind at rest :)
I told you she looked fine, just take what the others said on the chin - your horse, your choice :D :D

You take such good care of her love, feel proud :) xxx

I think she's looking very well. Certainly wouldn't want anymore on her but she looks like a very healthy and happy horse. Going into summer you may not need any feed at all if she's getting enough turnout.

Ashleigh: I know but you know what the yard is like! Thought I'd put a post on here like you said to keep my mind at rest because the comments arnt nice! :D

Apercrumbie: I'll still give her a bit of hard feed, the horses on the yard have to be in at night and out in the day even in the summer :( so will always give her something as its her routine and don't want her dropping off any weight but fingers crossed will keep the weight she's at now with no more weight putting on apart from muscle now lol

I agree, it was a good thing to do, the forum is so handy sometimes!!
Anyway, she looks fantastic so chin up love xxxxxx :D

What a transformation! She's beautiful.

However, I remember reading an article on lammi etc and it said you want to keep your horse at the bottom of the metaphorical mountain - so tipping over into lammi takes a lot. For me, she's quite a way up that mountain so I wouldn't want her getting any bigger :)

I hope that helps. I let my sports horse get very big last summer and as a consequence we're almost certain she had laminitis though she didn't show the classic signs.

Here's a photo of her at her heaviest, I didn't think it was bad but it was, clearly from the lines to her feet :( excuse me!

No, she is not fat! Take no notice. She is bang on just right. Well done.
