Condolences to family and friends, and a thought for all involved at Belton, a terrible thing to happen.
RIP Ian

Exactly what alwaysbroke said, took the words right out of my mouth. Terrible news to log on and read, my thoughts go out to all involved. RIP Ian.

RIP Ian, what a sad and tragic event, both for his family and friends and the sport as a whole.

I was at Belton today but didn't arrive until 12noon. We wondered why that jump was roped off.

Quite a few riders withdrew from the 3* and some pulled up if their horse made any mistakes.

The air ambulance landed mid afternoon, hope there wasn't another accident.

Thoughts with the fence judge, the attending medics and the Buntines too.

RIP Ian. i had a number of lessons with him and thought he was one of the best X country trainers i've ever had- both because he was technically excellent and pushed you to achieve but also because of his brilliant sense of humour. i feel sick that this has happened and cannot imagine how his poor friends and family are feeling xxx

oh my god, so shocked to hear this.. saw a nasty rotational fall at Hambleden on Friday but luckily rider was okay.. really makes you think how precious life is..

RIP Ian, my thoughts are with all close to him..

So tragic and my heart goes out to anyone who knew him, as I hear he was a real character and very special person.

I echo what TableDancer said, what is happening to our sport?

Yes, that's where I met him. He told me a joke and made me laugh.

A terrible fatality. Sounds like a real character in the sport has been lost. Another dark day for the sport we all love.
