I lost my beautiful young mare to grass sickness only 3 weeks ago and it still hurts like mad.
Ive just started browsing horse adds again and am desperate to hunt from the start of the season.
only browsing a mare has really caught my eye and cant stop thinking about her. she's pretty, local ish, well priced, and sounds like she'd suit me BUT.....
she looks JUST like my girl i lost :( and.........
It wasnt her name but i always called my girl princess. the last words I said to her were "sleep tight princess!"....
the horse im looking at is called "princess!" .....
so fate or far to wierd!???

Personally I think it is a beautiful coincidence :)

Sorry you lost your mare. Good luck with the search.

I'm very sorry that you lost your mare. I am sure it was and continues to be devastating. But, if you feel that the best way to deal with your grief is to have another to focus your attention on, why not call up about the one advertised and perhaps go and see her?

Any other horse you may get won't replace the one you lost, but if it adds comfort then go for it. It is very coincidental that she is similar! A friend of mine lost her horse in very sad circumstances and we found her a new boy after a series of odd coincidences. A year on and she wouldn't change him for the world.

Sounds like a beautiful coincidence x

Can I please whisper a word of caution though .... do NOT buy this new one because it looks like your old girl. You MUST make sure it is the right horse for you otherwise it could be a huge "on the rebound" mistake!!

Best of luck.

I lost my souldog last year, very very very unexpectedly. Beyond devastated (still am tbh) and I contacted his breeders to let them know. They invited us up whenever we felt ready just to go and see them - but we'd have to go back again if we wanted a puppy, it was far too soon for us. (Their rule!)

So 3 weeks later I felt able to be near the same breed of dog again (honestly, I was a mess) we went up, we chatted and then OH asked if they'd let us know about any puppies. They did have a litter at the time, but all pups were sold. We were welcome to go cuddle puppies if we wanted though. We did. There'd be no point though, they were all sold and we'd only want one. They didn't have 1 litter, they had 2 - and probably unsurprisingly, Otto came from that second litter. The coincidental/fatey bit of this story is that Otto and Herman have the same dad, maybe not that surprising given that they're from the same breeder but they'd only used that particular dog twice, once for Herman's litter (and he was a long haired variety of the breed) and once, just over 3 years later for Otto's litter (he is a short haired dog). We feel ridiculously privileged to have Otto - people have been on their waiting lists for a puppy for months and we had the Toodlepopper within a week of meeting him - and some people never make it off the list.

I struggled a lot at first tbh though - I'd expect him to behave as Herman did and of course he doesn't and it took me a long while to properly bond with him (although we don't and I don't think ever will have anything like the bond Herman & I had) but he has his own special place in my heart now.

Only you know if this is the right Princess for you. But if you go and see her & DO end up bringing her home, don't do what I did & expect your Princess to be floating around in there. I know it's a really silly thing to say/admit but it took me a long time to accept that Otto was his own dog in his own right and not to expect him to be a Herman clone.

thanks all. I wrote the number down to ring earlier which was soon followed to a teary outburst so didnt ring.
something just keeps drawing me back to the advert though. she's got to be worth a look. : /

Lovely coincidence. Al lost this little mare:

They look very similar, superficially, although he is much finer (both full TBs, but Bee looked like a connie/TB mix whereas he is definitely all TB!). The similarities end there. It was very much random fate that lead to Al getting him- he was posted about on here and she fell for him. It was soon, but you just have to follow your heart a bit, I reckon.
