Father and two children drowned

What a terrible, terrible thing to happen. My thoughts are with the childrens' mother.
I'm sorry to say though, that to take 4 very young children out in a canadian canoe, on a SEA LOCH which has very strong tidal undercurrents was a very irresponsible thing to have done.

R.I.P. poor babies....you didn't stand a chance.
Thinking of the 5 year old girl involved too, in the Sick Childrens Hospital, Yorkhill, Glasgow, while she hopefully makes a quick recovery. :(

I know Kingairloch and the surrounding area well. I suspect that the surviving adults will be as aware as the rest of us as to their responsibility. Dear God, what a burden to live with. It will never leave them.

Rest in peace , little ones.

Many years ago, when our children were very young, about the age of the children in this story, my husband (a very strong man and strong swimmer) decided to take them out in a rowing boat in Bangor (Northern Ireland) harbour, just basically across the harbour. He had not gone much of a distance when he realised that he had really got it terribly wrong, what appeared to be a reasonable sea, was in fact quite rough. He was very very lucky to stay calm, not panic and get safely to shore. To this day some 28 years later he has, on occasion, nightmares about it. It is so easy to condemn the poor man in this story, but please lets not make him out to be a devil.

Terrible Tragedy andI really feel for all involved but when you have worked with tides and currents 12 meters on the River Severn and have been flushed round the canoe slalom course at the White Water Centre River Nene for Fast Water training I am Sorry but what were these People thinking of.

Absolutely devastating. Heard on the news tonight that the other five yr old who was in the boat with them died in hospital today as well. So that's a lost, presumed dead father, 2 dead 5 yr olds and a dead 2 yr old. My heart breaks for the families and the remaining father who has lived to tell the tale. How one copes with this sort of tragedy I don't know. I shall be giving my little 3 yr old an extra kiss and cuddle tonight when I go in to check on her. How blessed I am to still have mine with me. You just never know when tragedy might hit.

well said. Terrible terrible tragedy. Nothing more to say.

Before everyone shouts down the grown ups for being irresponsible, I've just received a text from my best mate who was there. She was on the water an hour before and apparently it was beautiful and calm.

It's very easy for everyone to shout about how stupid people are from the safety of their armchairs but three children are dead and everyone, not just their parents, have to live with that.

Absolutely. There but for the Grace of God go I. Tragedies happen so quickly. There is no need for us to judge the parents. They will do that for themselves for the rest of their lives. Accidents happen so quickly. My thoughts are with them all. I hope to God I never have to experience what they are currently going through. It could so easily happen to any of us.

Have spent many a holiday in this area with our boys when they were younger, a stunning area, but a Canadian canoe is not ment for the sea.
Absolute tragedy, my thoughts for all involved. This is no time for judgement.
RIP little ones and the dad.
