Bought a 1 yr old welsh a, would like to show him in hand as he has super breeding but compared to some yearlings, he is under height and very weedy. Wasn't cared for in previous home. His legs were still caked in last years thick dried on winter mud. Is it best to put him on good grass? What food would get him back looking good quick without overloading him.

I'd write off showing him until later, I don't think you can improve a yearling quickly without affecting their growth. Mine looks weedy but has all her vitamins and minerals covered and grass to eat so I'd suggest looking at something like Dodson and Horrell Sure grow to ensure he has the basics covered.

I agree with Rebels. You want to make sure he is getting a balanced diet with a good source of minerals and vitamins but not to rush to grow and put on weight. Better to let him have this summer just catching up slowly and think about next year being the time for showing him.
