My fave old thing is/was my old Toggi Calgary boots. Finally given up the ghost after 15 years! Fave new thing is I’ve discovered riding skirts! Love them. Warm legs and less wet on damp days! What’s your fave old and fave new?

Fave old; jute rug bought for my mum's first pony and now coming in very useful for my little new forest at night because Cushing's is meaning she's feeling the cold a bit

Fave new; there's a fair few. The groomi is seeing a lot of use at the moment though and I've just put away my thermal leggings I've been wearing under yard clothes all winter and the latex gloves I wear under normal gloves

The mice ate my lovely jute rug of many years ago. Lovely rugs!

Are you looking to get a replacement? I have a pair that I have literally worn a handful of times which I just don't use!

My favourite old things vary a bit in age…

I’ve got leather headcollar that’s about 14 years old that was a gift from the loaner of the small, hairy Irish missile when I took him back. It’s been worn “for best” by every horse I’ve owned since.

I’ve got a very nice 12 ft horsemanship rope that gets used just about every day… really must see if the maker still makes them & get another !

I’ve got a wool Musto hunting jacket that is just such a nice jacket. Unsure of exact age but think I’ve had it about 12 years or so and was 2nd hand and not brand new when I got it. Sadly rarely gets to come out to play atm.

Current favourite new thing is my combined early birthday present to myself, the pony & the dog of a Hippo Go shower. The mains tap at the yard is several minutes walk away from the tie up area with nowhere to tie up so bathing is a bit of a challenge. Having portable hot water is very exciting (it will also be VERY useful for not having to bundle a filthy dog into my car)

Shout out to the discovery of the equidry (life changing when you’re permanently freezing in winter!) and the even more recent purchase of padded waterproof riding trousers.

Also special shout out to my arm guards that stop my arms looking like they’ve been the victim of a knife attack when I’ve been filling nets (I’m allergic to hay so every tiny cut becomes very angry)

Great idea for a thread.

Fave old thing is a grooming kit box, the cantilever type. It is a plastic one that's about 30 years old and as good as new, incredible build quality.

Fave new thing is probably welly toppers, I have skinny legs and end up with wellies full of hay - my house is so much cleaner now!

Runners up: metal feed bins that I bought 2nd hand over 40 years ago and will probably last another 40. And Eva stable mats from when they first came out and were good and heavy.

Fave old thing - first grade English leather bridle made by saddler in Devon, hand cut and stitched with the perfectly weighted reins.

It has broken me for life as I feel a pompous saddlery moment coming on everytime I clap eyes on an offshore mass produced bridle in the saddlery for sale.

Fave new thing - Cavallo Opera stirrups. Light, love the flat wide base and game changer for my arthritic feet.

Fave new thing #2 - red light therapy wraps. Fixed horses injury and helped me heal from ski-ing injury.

Nearly everything that I have is old. The one that gets the most use is the 40+ year old wheelbarrow. One of the newest favourites are my Heiniger battery trimmers, even they are several years old now.
