I'm in the black camp by default but ruin the whole 'everything matches easily'ness by plastering hi-viz about the place. Having said that for a share I bought a brown bridle to match brown saddle and it did look nice.
My old boy was a bay horse, and TBH there wasn't a huge choice of colour in those days, it was either brown, brown, or, er, brown.
But I'm gonna show my age here - coz I can remember years ago when ALL tack was the regulation tan/havanna colour and if you wanted it to darken you'd get out the old Neatsfoot oil and get going........I remember when I had my first pony and he had to have a handmade new saddle; and it was a lovely shade of goldy havanna (and smelt gorgeous). I was told NOT to Neatsfoot it to make it darker coz if I ever wanted to sell it on secondhand it would be worth more if it hadn't darkened.
