Favorite colour tack and why

I'm in the black camp by default but ruin the whole 'everything matches easily'ness by plastering hi-viz about the place. Having said that for a share I bought a brown bridle to match brown saddle and it did look nice.

Black all the way! Purely because, black matches most horse colours, all numnah colours, and if you go shopping for a breastplate, bridle or anything else, you can guarantee that it will match the saddle, as you can't get different shades of black, so it will always match, and this makes shopping a lot easier :D

depends on the colour of the horse :) i dont like brown tack on my black beastie but i like brown or tan tack on my chestnut but not so much black... black would probably be my choice of colour if i couldnt have both as black goes with everything :) also you dont have that issue of finding matching colours as it only comes in black o black unlike brown with its many shades...

Black looked really smart on my bright bay but current pony is a chestnut roan / white coloured, and I would love a nice brown saddle for him, currently have a black synthetic but as I don't really ride him can't justify a new one !

Honestly, so long as the colour pallet is pleasing to my eye, I don't mind that much. I just haven't really found brown tack looks that good with many colours. Funnily enough, I do actually prefer brown western tack.

I REALLY like Barbie pink on a dappled grey or white pony, or baby blue.
I like yellow or lime green on a dark bay and red on a red bay like Ned, or a black pony.

For me, matchy matchy is a must. Ack, I get all twitchy when things don't match and look good together, but that's just me, I would never tell anyone what colour tack to use, unless asked!

My piebald traddie boy has dark brown saddle & bridle; and black Welsh D mare has black tack.

My old boy was a bay horse, and TBH there wasn't a huge choice of colour in those days, it was either brown, brown, or, er, brown.

But I'm gonna show my age here - coz I can remember years ago when ALL tack was the regulation tan/havanna colour and if you wanted it to darken you'd get out the old Neatsfoot oil and get going........:) I remember when I had my first pony and he had to have a handmade new saddle; and it was a lovely shade of goldy havanna (and smelt gorgeous). I was told NOT to Neatsfoot it to make it darker coz if I ever wanted to sell it on secondhand it would be worth more if it hadn't darkened.

Both my horses wear synthetic endurance-type bridles on occasion too; traddie-boy has a puke-coloured neon green shade, while mare has a purple one. We usually swap over in the winter from their leather bridles and use the synthetic ones for winter; MUCH easier, chuck it in a bucket on return and hey-presto, clean bridle!

!

Looooads of shades of brown though :D Havana, and dark havana, and London (ew) and Newmarket (ew) and some other browns I can't think of right now. Oo remembered another brown, Windsor.

I remember back then though only poor quality leather would be dyed black (apart from harness) as it was easier to disguise with a coat of black dye.
