'You were once wild; do not let them tame you!'

This quote is so thought provoking don't you think. When one of my horse's is having a bad day, i remember this quote. This quote incapsulates the essence of the horse; they may do almost whatever we require 90% of the time, but when they want to have a bomb off and a bucking fit-don't get angry with them, let them be their own wild selves for a few minutes!

Anyone else got some favourite quotes, and why they are so important to you?

''There are only two emotions that belong in the saddle; one is a sense of humour and the other is patience''

So very true.

You've got to fall off at least 7 times before you're considered a good rider???

I've fallen off about 5 times in my whole life which explains why i'm such a s**t rider i guess!

I wonder if emergency dismounts count - done a fair few of them!! :D:D

No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle ~ Winston Churchill

Definitely agree with this, especially when the sun is shining! That time of focus allows everything else to slide away :o

This is so true!!

I also like these two, the first because I think it sums up the nobility of the horse and it's place in history as a working animal to which such a lot is owed and not just the leisure animals we have today.

The second is just true!

Look back at our struggle for freedom,
Trace our present day's strength to it's source;
And you'll find that man's pathway to glory
Is strewn with the bones of the horse.

In my opinion, a horse is the animal to have. Eleven-hundred pounds of raw muscle, power, grace, and sweat between your legs - it's something you just can't get from a pet hamster. ~Author Unknown

'A man that can't cry for a horse is no man at all'

And

'I have but pity, and deep regrets
For people who think that a horse forgets'

Both very true IMO

This is my favourite - so true of my mare haha
She knows when you're happy
She knows when you're comfortable
She knows when you're confident
And she ALWAYS knows when you have carrots.

another great one I've always tried to adhear to (I did say try!) and still makes me chuckle when I read it...

''Riding; the art of keeping a horse between yourself and the ground!'' :D

simple but again very true

A few of my favourites:
Many people have sighed for the 'good old days' and regretted the 'passing of the horse,' but today, when only those who like horses own them, it is a far better time for horses. ~C.W. Anderson

All I pay my psychiatrist is the cost of feed and hay, and he'll listen to me any day. ~Author Unknown

To me, horses and freedom are synonymous. ~Veryl Goodnight

A Dog looks up to a man,
A cat looks down on a man,
But a patient horse looks a man in the eye and sees him as an equal. - Author Unknown

The horse knows how to be a horse if we will leave him alone... but the riders don't know how to ride. What we should be doing is creating riders and that takes care of the horse immediately. ~ Charles de Kunffy

And my 2 very favourites:

I heard a neigh, Oh, such a brisk and melodious neigh it was. My very heart leaped with the sound. ~ Nathaniel Hawthorne

He who said he made a small fortune in the horse business probably started out with a large fortune! ~ Anonymous

Love this one, if I was in a stinking mood or something was wrong I would tack my old horse up go for a canter round the field and it was as though all my worries had disappeared, he was a total nutcase to ride, scared to death of his own shadow in the stable but some how felt that I connected with him that I didn't feel with any of my other horses.

Somewhere behind the rider you've become are the trainers who have pushed you, the people who believed in you, the long hours of schooling, the dirt beneath your nails, the falls you've taken, the ribbons you didn't win, the ribbons you won, the tears you've cried, and the horses you've given your heart to: Is a little girl who fell in love with a horse and never looked back...ride for her

and god said to the wind ' condense thyself' and he created the arab horse,
where's the hankie

a good horse is never a bad colour............ even if it is a chestnut mare like one i own.

the wildest colts make the best horses.....so true

There's nothing better than a good 17 hands of hot sweaty muscle thundering away between your thighs to get the adrenaline pumping and put a big smile upon your face.
