Hi there! New forum goer here. My main interest for joining was to see what peoples favourite equine art is.

Currently, I'm really into Jordan Hempstead's work. She's only 19 and shows a lot of potential to be one of the greats.

I'm also a big fan of Jacquie Jones. Lovely abstract works.

Would be lovely to see the Horse and Hound communities own favourites :)

If this is in the wrong section I apologise!

For me nobody, beats Alfred Munnings. His paintings are so evocative of a certain time, and he knew horses so well. There is a serenity and knowledge in some of his paintings that is uncanny. He had several style in his armoury, each very suited to its subject.

Robin Roadknight and Elise Genest are my favourites. When I have a nice enough photo, I'd like Robin to do a commission of mine because I know she'd do them justice. Elise Genest's work is just stunning - absolutely demands your attention.

Both are on FB if anyone wants to see their work.

I hope I don't get shot down for this, but from an artists pov i'm just not that in to Kiernan style artworks, relatively easy to produce (from experience) and I also notice her horses rarely have legs or never more than one. Saying that, i'm not very contemporary so just not my cup of tea :)

I have a Leslie Benenson of my old Arab ( now in heaven ). It was done from life when he had yet to reach his prime. She was tremendous fun to talk to and her knowledge of bloodlines staggering. The portrait is is one of my most treasured possessions.

I think that's the best bit about art though, don't you? Everyone has their favourite style, whether it be a photographic composition, contemporary, impression-type.

My Lydia Kiernan prints are about 15 years old now, and before she moved on to study the Iberian form so much (which I'm not so keen on)

I also have an absolutely fabulous portrait of my old by by Sarah Fox (http://www.sarahfoxfineart.co.uk/a1-gallery2.asp?roomID=5596 (Pinto))

:)

I like 'proper' art, no impressionists for me so I love Munnings, Lionel Edwards, Peter Biegel, John King and of course the very evocative Daniel Crane; I also admire Tony o'Connor, so talented with almost any species, not just horses.
I defy anyone to better the 'five', especially their hunting scenes. For old hunting grooms like me, none would make the hairs on the back of your neck rise more than this one of 'Hickling Lane, second horses' by Daniel Crane.

I'm biased as DH is a wonderful animal artist! The bu99er hasn't done a portrait of our mare yet though. She's starting to feel neglected and unloved as he's done several fellow liveries, one of their dogs and some of the YO's cattle!

A portrait was done of Bill for a present for me, by Micha Gomes, and I think it's brilliant! :D it captured his character perfectly:)

This is my sort of thing too. I also love Snaffles

My own (please feel free to have a look )........check out Trevor Taylor - he's wonderful, but my favourite painting has got to be 'Whistlejacket' by George Stubbs - if you've never seen it - you must go and see the real thing hanging in the National Gallery - it's amazing. Alfred Munnings takes some beating to, and Degas did some beautiful horses as well. I just remembered - a dutch artist Rien Poorthlivet (hope I've spelt that right) - he's stunning.

Oh - and Thelwell of course!
