Favourite Horsey Film?

Phar Lap (own the DVD)
National Velvet (own the DVD)
My Friend Flicka (DVD in the post from play.com)
Thunderhead Son of Flicka (DVD in the post from play.com)

I'm looking for The Horse In The Grey Flannel Suit ... and another oldie called Gypsy Colt - which is Lassie Come Home but with a horse. I had them on VHS [off the telly] ... I'm sure I saw one of them in a boxed set of "girl's films"

Am I the only one thinking that they would never be able to remake that scene in the Black Stallion today because of health and safety?

Which is the film where the girl does dressage to music on a big black horse?

I have to say I don't like the Horse Whisperer. She's really mean to her husband and to him.

They did a trilogy of my friend flicka green grass of wyoming and thunderhead the son of flicka - all top films for that sunday afternoon laid out on the sofa cup of coffee and biscuit tin!!

there was a brilliant film about a diving horse and a blind girl but can not for the life of me what it is called!!

The title you're looking for is Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken. I agree that it's another must see horse film. Gabrielle Anwar was at her best in it too.

If it's the one where the horse goes blind, then it is The Long Shot which starred Julie Benz. Hallmark released it on DVD, but I think it is only available as region 1.

I remember watching a film about a pony that 2 young boys fell in love with-one was a rich spoilt boy in a wheel chair and the other was a young lad from the wrong side oof town and they both wanted him-there was a scene where they were all in a pen-the 2 boys stood opposite each other and each of the boys calling the pony to them and whoever it wnet to got to keep the pony? any ideas?

aside from that-

Black Stallion
Seabiscuit!

I love them all, but if I have to pick one it would Probably be the man from snowy river.

Wow someone else who knows this film, I haven't met many people that love this one - but it has to be my ultimate favourite.
I love the rest of the too- though National and International Velvet come pretty close!

I have MFSR on VHS taped off the telly yeeeeears ago. Grrr thanks to this thread I now have to go and find my slightly-falling-apart Black Stallion book. I love Seabiscuit, MFSR, Into the West.

Has anyone else seen Sylvester?? I saw it years ago - really good, but could only find it to buy in American format. Have to watch on th PC! Is about a wild ranch Horse that goes on to do the Kentucky 3DE.

Black stallion films are awesome. We went to the Dominican Republic a few years ago and I saw a pic of the Horse on the wall. The stud farm he was from was in the Domincan Republic - I didn't know that.

Wish I could help you, but that's not ringing any bells. Will try finding out, but I can't promise anything.

There are so many, but the ones I always enjoy watching are:

All three Black Stallion films

Miracle of the White Stallions

Black Beauty (Sean Bean version)

Snowy River movies

Big Spender

The Long Shot

Running Free (the Frisien being called a Thoroughbred was priceless!)

Dreamer

The Rogue Stallion

Blue Fire Lady

Shergar

Original Flicka and its sequels

Mustang Country

The Silver Brumby

The Electric Horseman

Casey's Shadow

Anything with Trigger

The Horse Whisperer

Legend (not a horse film but the unicorns stole the movie)

Racing Stripes

Phar Lap

Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken

Gypsy Colt (with Fury!!)

Primo Baby

The Christmas Stallion

The Adventures of Ragtime

Smoky

Nico the Unicorn

Wind Dancer

Coyote Summer

Tumbleweed

King of the Wind

Maryland

Wild Horses (Kenny Rodgers version)

Ones to avoid AT ALL COSTS are:

American Black Beauty (why Dean Stockwell, why??)

Lightning the White Stallion (just horrible!)

Daydream Believer (way too bizarre)

Bite the Bullet (wire tripping, putting horses over cliffs, drugging - should be boycotted)

In Pursuit of Honour (far too many horse deaths - that scene where all those horses got shot was especially disturbing)

I just couldn't get International Velvet. They didn't need to include the horse being shot on the plane and the meat wagon waiting on the plane landing. Traumatized me as a kid and still doesn't make for pleasant viewing. And what was with the horse still being alive after several decades??

Also didn't like Seabiscuit. It took at least forty-minutes for the title character to come into it and when he did, it was still all about the people. If they wanted to make it a human story then they shouldn't have named it after a horse!

Just had International Velvet made into a DVD by a really good company http://www.vicpine.co.uk/international-velvet.htm where they copy off videos - not great quality but what you'd expect from a video copy. As far as I can find I don't think International Velvet was ever made into a DVD so very happy I now own a copy of it!!!
Also love Black Beauty, My Friend Flicka, National Velvet, Hidalgo, Sea Biscuit and pretty much any other horsey films I can get my hands on - always a good comfort genre to watch!

"Into The West" is probably my favourite. I love the scene in the tower block when the kids are trying to hide the horse.

I want to watch "Phar Lap" - must see if I can find a copy.

I've seen most of the films mentioned above and they're all okay except possibly "The Long Shot" which I found really annoying - how many obstacles can one person encounter ??
