Favourite horsey movies?

Gutted missed Seabiscuit and never seen so really wanted to watch it!! Looking forward to Martin Clunes on Horsepower tomorrow ITV1! However my fav horsey film is a French one called Danse Avec Lui. Its a wonderful film and is by far my fav that I've seen. Did like Horse Whisperer but preferred the book.

Has anyone seen "Into the West"?

It's about a couple of Irish traveller boys who find a magical white horse, called Tir na Nog. He gets taken by the police and sold to be a showjumper. Then the boys steal him back and run away across Ireland with him.

It stars Gabriel Byrne, was made maybe late 90s? Really really good and SUCH a weepie!!!! I haven;t found anyone else who's seen it, but I do have it on DVD.

Nope, never seen it! Will look it up on Surf the Channel :) xx

Champion, at least I think that was what it was called about the horse and jockey??

But also National Velvet, didn't like international velvet so much.

Phar-lap was also very good!!

God those are 3 old films, I'm really starting to show my age!! Haven't seen sea biscuit.

Into the West, just loved it "why is my birthday the same as the day Mammy died" oh welling up!!
Phar Lap & Champions know them inside out & backwards :-)

The Black Stallion, the bit in the beach, it gives me goose pimples :o

20 mins of the film, the ones I've posted, have no dialogue, but are so evocative and make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, I love the underwater bit where it looks as if they are dancing, then he gets on the horse and lives out everyone's fatasy, just wonderful :)

Phar Lap is very sad, haven't seen it in a while but I remember weeping the first time I saw it. In To The West is another good one, and International Velvet for the cheese! :D

I seem to like all the racing ones - Champions, Phar Lap (sob) and Seabiscuit are my absolute favourites. I also have a real soft spot for National Velvet but not impressed by International Velvet.
Watched Seabiscuit today with my tissues at the ready! Lovely stuff!

National and International Velvet - how I wished I was Sarah Brown!!

Phar Lap - even my non-horsy mum loved that one!

I do remember Into the West - which was great.

And I'm so glad Champions has not been forgotten - I was beginning to wonder. haven't seen it for ages, but has me in floods every time...

For me would have to be Phar Lap , amazing film but very sad too....

1. phar lap
2.sea biscuit
3. the black stallion

Loved black beauty as a kid but the music now makes me cry, an although I like the sean bean version, the rest are now rubbish and much prefer the books.

Also used to like Flicker

THe foal is another wich springs to mind, it is upthere but not a favourite

THanks for bringing up champion, was it a series on BBC1?, I remeber it with the actor that was in Riders

Another vote for Into the West...

SUCH a magical story! - my favourite horse movie, although not really about a horse per se, although it is :o.... Please do rent a copy but don't blame me if you run out of tissues....

Oh, the last scene.... *blows nose hard but smiles too*

Champions, OMG how could I have forgotten that one, me and my best friend used to watch that every week and sit there crying our eyes out. Then we got a race horse fresh out of training at the yard we worked at and he was related to Aldaniti and trained by Josh Gifford too :) can you imagine how excited we were!!

Phar lap, Go on Bobby (even writing it down brings a lump to my throat!!)

Champions

Man from snowy river

Need to get on Amazon for a multi region dvd player and some new dvds!!!:D
