I STOOD BY YOUR BED

I stood by your bed last night,
I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying,
You found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly
As you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you,
I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast,
I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times,
Your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today,
Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels,
I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today,
You tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you,
That I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house,
As you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you,
I smiled and said "It's me."

You looked so very tired,
And sank into a chair,
I tried so hard to let you know,
That I was standing there.

It's possible for me,
To be so near you every day.
To say to you with certainty,
"I never went away."

For anyone who misses a dog....

This makes me bawl at the moment! However if it was Hazzie puppy the little so and so would not only help me with my shopping but everytime I came in loaded down would run and stick his head in each one until he found his treats then totally 'rage' the bag, take one oh so delicately and sit there on the lawn watching me try and rescue all the shopping that has just fallen out!

This is my favourite, although very sad, gave me strength when having my dog PTS.

May I go now?
Don't you think the time is right?
May I say goodbye to pain-filled days and endless lonely nights?
I've lived my life and tried my best, an example I tried to be.
Can I take the step beyond and set my spirit free?
I didn't want to go at first, I faught with all my might!
But something seems to draw me now to a warm and loving light.
I want to go! I really do! It's difficult to stay.
But I will try as best as I can to live just one more day____
To give you time to let me go and share your love and fears.
I know you are sad and afraid because I see the tears.
I'll not be far, I promise that, and hope you'll always know
that my spirit will be close to you wherever you may go.
Thank you for loving me. You know I loved you too.
That's why it's so hard to say goodbye and end this life with you.
So hold me now, just one more time, and let me hear you say
Because you care so much for me, you'll let me go today.

This has always been my favourite doggy poem:

THE POWER OF THE DOG by Rudyard Kipling

THERE is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.
Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet's unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find - it's your own affair, -
But ... you've given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!),
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone - wherever it goes - for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear!

We've sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent,
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we've kept 'em, the more do we grieve;
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long -
So why in - Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

My eyes are streaming on what should be a celebration day....daughter passed her driving test on her first attempt! We have three wonderful young pooches.....2 year old Springer bitch, year old Golden Retriever (best dog EVER!) and 17 week old Large Munsterlander....... all baby dogs.....until a friend said "Do you realise they'll all grow old at the same time?". Don't want to think about that, just want to enjoy them!

Another Rudyard Kipling poem that reduces me to tears

FOUR FEET

I have done mostly what men do,
And pushed it out of my mind;
But I can't forget, if I wanted to,
Four-Feet trotting behind.

Day after day, the whole day through--
Wherever my road inclined--
Four-Feet said, 'I am coming with you!'
And trotted along behind.

Now I must go by some other round--
Which I shall never find--
Some where that does not carry the sound
Of Four-Feet trotting behind.

--- Rudyard Kipling ---

Why am i reading this thread, my nose is running and all my work colleagues are staring at me.
