Has anyone else 'liked' theses pages, Im stuck at what to do, I know there is a serious crisis within the equine world here in Britain but it really upsets me seeing these photos of dead horses on the side of the road etc and I dont want to unlike and play ignorant at whats happening! Anyone else in the same position so to speak?

The government seriously need to pull their fingers out and sort out this mess and cruelty to these poor poor animals, and these do gooder need to stop 'saving' these animals from slaughter, Im gonna stick my neck out here and say that it is probably the best place for some horses/ponies to go, rather than spend a cruel lifetime being passed from pillar to post and dumped to die on a street corner!!!

Sorry for having a mini rant or whatever this is, just need to let it out :(((

Its awful :( It really does shock you into what type of country we are living in, these human beings causing unneccesary (cant spell) suffering to gods creature, a life! It is disgusting. The humans should be subject to torture for what they do to these animals :(
 
Agree OP; there's a lot lot worse things that can happen to a horse than being humanely PTS.

There is a problem in that there are far too many horses in this country; and we've had a similar mini-situation down here in the Westcountry with the Dartmoor ponies, once a highly-valued little riding/driving pony, now you can't even give them away, simply because of a lack of oversight & direction going way back to the 1960's and beyond, where they were allowed to interbreed with coloured runty little ponies up on the moor, producing even more runty offspring that basically no-one wants.

Magnify this with the whole UK situation, and here you have the problem. Just like dogs, everyone and his/her neighbour sees an easy peasy way to make a buck, and there's no oversight or responsibility in breeding.

Don't see how it can change TBH, which is awful, but sadly, I fear, true. Poor poor horses born into such a bl@ddy awful situation. But guess the ones who ARE PTS at least receive care and compassion when they need it most, i.e. at the end of their lives, all we can do for them really.
 
The equine charities have joined together and are trying to bring pressure on DEFRA and the government to take action. They want faster action to be taken when there is a problem, there is more info on WHW web site they are asking us to all write to DEFRA asking for action. There is a link from the web site. Currently the government are saying the new Anti Social crime and policing bill will improve the situation, but that will not stop overr breeding and cruelty.
 
I was turning a blind eye for a while. Then gradually started liking charities and rescues on FB. Ending up with me fostering 2 rescues. Now I want to take in more.

You cant save them all, but helping a few makes me feel like i'm doing something to help.

Its probably an impractical suggestion, but I would love to see compulsory castration implemented on any equine over 1yr unless owner and horse meets specific criteria. Then enforcement of passport and microchip. If the overbreeding was halted, then we could either rescue/rehabilitate the horses or cull the unsuitable ones.
