Feather mites and lameness?

Hi all, I'm having a mites nightmare. I bought my dales gelding back in feb and began treating him for feather mites with deosect as he was stomping his back legs. However, he has come in from the field lame on his back leg and my friend said she noticed him stomping last week again (she just forgot to mention it). Has anyone ever experienced lameness through mites? I have the vet coming Monday but I'm really worried about it. What treatments have you all used and did they become sound again? Thanks

My mare has had mites several times and no issues with lameness. I usually treat with dectomax shots from the vet, works really well

Mmm. Mine does this, i.e. stamps his feet, and I'm wondering if it is this factor which is causing the lameness rather than the actual feather mites problem itself?

The stamping is probably making his feet very sore, similar to a concussive injury probably.

I've just done him with Coopers Pour on stuff; but in the past the vet has prescribed three separate doses of Ivermectin wormer: one dose every fortnight.

I've been having this mite problem with my Freisian too, which my vet prescribed Invermectin wormer injections. He had three - 10 days apart and it seems to have worked, although I did have to clip his feathers off. However he also has a condition called greasy heels - has anyone else had this problem? I have only had him since last year and never had a horse with feathers and wondered if it had anything to do with the feathers.

Mine sometimes stomps his feet but put it down to trying to get the flies off, didn't consider mites, how do you know if they have them? what do I look out for?

There are lots of threads on here about mites with loads of useful ideas. Mine has had them on and off for years ( we have tried tons of things) and often stamps his feet but this has never caused lameness.
