As the title says, what do you all find is the best treatment?

I think my new mare may have them as I have seen her quite a few times scratching at them and I'd rather be safe then sorry :)

I think pig oil and sulphur is quite a popular way of treating them, I tried it on a Dales pony who seemed to have itchy legs + stamping and it seemed to sort it out - though never sure whather it was mites or not... heyho

I'd love to show her locally so I don't really want to clip them off so last night I ashed them in a anti-bac/anti-fungal shampoo, then when they were just about dry I spotted some front line on them and sprayed pig oil through them so hoping that will do the trick :) I will keep an eye on her scratching them as I have two more drops of front line if needed :)

Nugz had straw mites round his fetlocks so was stamping and doing contortions to itch them. I clipped off feathers and I got given deosect by the vet to make up and spray on nugz heels. Only needed about 2 treatments (just as well because at the time as he was booger for letting me do things with sprays, especially round his legs :D)

I've not needed to do it since and that was about 2.5 years ago, so guessing that the straw we have isn't crawling with critters!

I've always treated my traditional cobs feathers with Deosect once a month upon the recommendation of my vet- has always worked a treat. Dectomax injections are supposed to work well too. Good luck!
