My cob has started stamping her feet in her stable and in the space of two nights she ruined one of her shoes! Farrier has sorted her out, but said she probably has itchy feet caused by mites. Does anyone know how best to get of these? And quick, or she'll ruin 'em again, or worse!

my cobby-ish mare always gets mites.

we used to get a wash type treatment from the vets to treat them, but now they give us "dectomax" which is injected intra-muscularly and then repeated a couple of weeks later.

it is not licenced for horses- but thats what my equine vet prescibes!

if your cob is heavily feathered then you may also need to clip and wash with hibbiscrub to relieve the itching and stamping. ;)

Clip legs but be careful that there are no scabs to cut through as this is very painful and will make your horse difficult to clip in future. Get the worst off , if there are scabs, and then soak scabs off or cream them off before reclipping once healed.
