Feather mites on a hairy cob

Hi I have a hairy cob with feather mites. I would love to keep his feathers and not clip them off. Any recommendations I could use please? Vet is coming out Friday afternoon to give him the injection but would appreciate any advice to help him in the meantime. Thank you.

I think it is difficult to treat a horse with its feathers, I clip mine off, but he has hair like bristle and I cant see the skin even with a clipped leg ! I think vet will probably advise clipping
