Could I trim Daisy's feather's with my husband's hair clippers? I know that they would blow up if I tried doing her whole body but would they manage just a little bit on her legs? I need to keep her legs hair free so i can monitor her for any signs of swelling but I don't own clippers or want or fully clipped out.

Anyone tried it or am I wrong for even thinking of it?

I think you will find, that they just won't be able to clip the hair as it will be too coarse/thick (she is cobby isn't she??), now if she was Arab or something fine coated, they would work fine.

My horse has proper shire feathers, they are aways trimmed. In the summer I used to do them with scissors and a comb, now I use the clippers and hold a comb in the way so they dont go to short, then in the winter he has a full clip and everything goes!!
Mens hair clippers just wont cope unless it very fine hair. They wont clip my boys face, so think theyd explode if i tried his legs!!
Scissors and a comb are just as good as clippers, i only used clippers cos its quicker! Some horses wont have clippers on their legs anyway.

Am i the only one that doesnt clip the feathers then? Im a real irish girl at heart and believe clippers/scissors should never be used on a cob

i do like the traditional look but I can't monitor her legs for swelling when all that feather is in the way. If its a choice between her being happy and rideable and her looking pretty then I'm going to choose happy every time

Nope, if she has cob feather no chance. What you can do is take them right back with sissors and then use a clippersharp thining comb to finish the job neatly - worked a treat on my friend's welsh cob.

However, if you have shire/clydie legs then you may have to use decent clippers rather than the clippersharp comb.

Hopefully you can later go back to the hairy look.
