housewife and yummy mummy
i was woundering, if u clip feathers off of their legs does it encourage more growth back????? my appolosa x cob i love her 2 bits but she grows the most hairiest featherd legs i have ever seen they look like them furry moon boots, she hates clippers , so i dont get them clipped off as often as would like, her feathers start at her knee and now she is walking on them,

clip them off. Never been a fan of feathers to be honest. Can't see the attraction. Once clipped off a horse can look completely different, always liked a bit of class I suppose and feathers just don't do it!!!!!!

We cut all Clyde's off because he suffers from mud fever and grease. Totally agree with last comment- they look so much nicer without them. I was amazed at how much classier his legs look.

I cant agree with you here completely. Im not normally a huge fan of feathers but ive been to see my instructors Friesian stallion today and he is to die for. Long mane and tail and the most gorgeous curly feathers ever. I think feathers on the right horse look nice.

to have a look at him: click on the link, click on studs, lolke

Can't you just trim them abit at the ends so she's not standing on them?

I don't think clipping legs will make them grow back faster. My old cob used to not allow his legs to be clipped either so I had to trim them by hand, takes a while but once you get used to it you can get really neat and i was often askedif I'd clipped his legs when really i'd just trimmed them. I used to fully trim his feathers about every two months although they could easily have waited longer but he used to get quite hot under them so i didn't like them to get too long.
