I have a TB mare who just over three week ago had a mild attack of colic, she recovered well. Last weekend I rode her out for the first time, just a gentle walk around the block, she sweated a little under her saddle pad, but nothing too bad, anyway on the sunday when I took her rugs off, the skin around the area that she had sweated on had gone crusty, almost like the skin had been burned, I put some zinc and castor cream on it and left it for the day with a towel over and then her rug on, this softened the damaged skin and that peel off. But what I did notice is that her coat is really poor, not like my other two who look health, this mare looks really dull in her coat, she is happy in every other way, is eating like she should and has weight on, but just looks dull coated, so folks any advice. She is fed soya oil, Winergy Equilibrium Low Energy and she has garlic and a few carrots. All comments and help much appreciated.........

Agree with the rundown, might have a look into the Pink Powder, also thought she might be Vitamin B deficient....... Next port of call was the vet, she is coming out next week to another on the yard, so will get her to do blood test.

Have you thought about adding a feed balancer like topspec / vit min supplement? sounds like she's not getting all she needs from her diet... that would be my first port of call as I'd have thought with the Soya Oil her coat would be fab...

Highly recommend Topspec, I know it seems expensive, but a bag lasts Goddy over 6weeks, and he is bigger and weightier than S! Really is fantastic stuff, means I have been able to totally cut out hoof supplements etc as his feet and coat look amazing. May also be worth giving her a high ion supplement, as it seems more and more common to have horses with a touch of Anaemia.

Blue Chip Original is also the dogs whatsits for a run down horse. I used it on my boy and the before/after pix are all true! Doesn't fizz a horse up either but make sure you get Original, not competition. Not cheap, but works!

Thanks everyone for your comments and advice, I'm going to pick a bag of TopSpec up for her.

Crazy_Caz - she seems to be drink as normal and she has access to a salt lick in her stable, although I can't monitor her drinking in the field, but she's not showing signs of dehydration (sp?)....
