Fed up with nuisance dogs

Don't be so ridiculous. This would be a clear contradiction to the Five Freedoms enshrined in the Animal Welfare Act 2006 (the freedom to express normal behaviour).

If you look at Grannys previous posts you will see she clearly has an issue with dogs, no matter where they are

No, they mean EVRYWHERE if you look at the petition... this person has popped up few times before, ululated about dogs and how we're all dooooomed by the Evil Canine Creatures then disappeared again, and has no demonstrable interest in anything other than stirring as far as I can see!

Oh flippin heck, I see now. How silly, dogs can be off the lead and still under control. I'd never sign a petition that would stop my beautiful labrador running through the woods and jumping in streams!!

Oh and just in case it pops up (because the OP has a habit of misquoting legislation and so on) the review to which they may choose to refer of dog law is a Private Members Bill which is drawn so low on the list the chances of it getting any Parliamentary time are even lower than the chances of it becoming law, which are visible only with an electron microscope...

yes i will sign that; totally fed up with lose dogs on busy roads, or left in unsecured gardens, or not put on lead when passing horses. just accidents waiting to happen

Anyone who is fed up of being harrassed or threatened by loose or intimidating dogs please sign the petition to No 10 regarding mandatory obligation to keep dogs on leads. Follow the link http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/dogsalwaysonlead/

No, I'm not fed up with loose or intimidating dogs. No. 1 because I rarely see one, and No. 2 because my horse is well educated where it comes to dogs.

There are far more important things to worry about quite frankly

Would never sign such an absurd petition. Fin is really well behaved, why would I want to stop him from running around and having fun?

PMSL Hananhen, may I congratulate you on a very succinct synopsis of the situation

Yes Im fed up with nuisance dogs on the bridleways but having a dog myself that is good with other dogs and horses, I wouldnt want some law to come in that means he has to stay on his lead. If people who own nuisence dogs would just muzzle them when off the lead, at least accidents/injuries could be prevented.

It's already an offence to have a dog dangerously out of control in a public place (DDA 1991):

[ QUOTE ]
(1) If a dog is dangerously out of control in a public place—

(a) the owner; and

(b) if different, the person for the time being in charge of the dog,

is guilty of an offence, or, if the dog while so out of control injures any person, an aggravated offence, under this subsection.

[/ QUOTE ]

and local authorities can already dogs to be kept out / kept on leads of certain areas (eg playgounds, beaches etc - see http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/quality/local/legislation/cnea/documents/dogcontrol-orders.pdf). This petition is calling for a ridiculous level of restriction which is totally disproportionate to the problems caused by the irresponsible minority of dog owners. It would also be unenforceable in my opinion.

It's very sad that the OP appears to have let dislike and fear turn into an obsession.

I've seen madder ones on that site mind you! Although it's difficult to call one to mind at this moment in time

I'm fed up of dogs chasing my horses or running under their hooves whilst I'm out hacking, running out into the road, chasing my cat, crapping in the school, yard, my front garden, ruining shows I go to by getting under horses feet, running into the ring, starting fights with other dogs on leads.

I love dogs but would never let my own do any of the above, it's a shame that so little can be done about nuisance dogs, police and dog wardens aren't interested unless a person has been bitten.

I realise that there are many people who do control their dogs when in public places and that it would be a shame for the majority to suffer because a few owners refuse to teach their dogs to behave.

What I would like to see is dog parks where dogs can happily play and socialise off lead. (yes' I watch the Dog Whisperer).

I don't think a law being passed meaning dogs have to be kept on leads at all times is the answer though.

I would hate that

One of the best things about owing a dog for me is walking in the country with him, not going to fenced, sanitised parks - I can see their use in urban areas but I don't live in a city, and I have no wish to have to visit one whenever I want to walk my dog, which is three times a day.

I think in towns and cities with very little green space and few footpaths they'd be a fab idea.

If we had one introduced in the area where I live it would stop most of the problems I've experienced as the bridleway which runs through our yard is one of the few off road places close to the town centre other than two parks which have playgrounds.

Yes, in cities for sure! I have had the joyous experience of being chased by a 'staffie x' *ahem ahem* while riding a pony in the middle of London, so I do know how annoying and scary it can be.

But the petition is calling for dogs to be on leads EVERYWHERE - town or country - which I think is ridiculous!
