My boy is off work for a while due to lameness.
I'm totally fed up of not being able to ride an just want to ride again!
Have any of you experienced anything like this? what did you do?

I advertised and asked around and ended up helping 3 other friend's ride their horses and still ride one of them regularly now, as well as my own ....... if that helps?

SNAP! My horse has had xrays and they showed arthritis in coffin joints. Along with that he needs alot of remedial work to change the shape of his foot completley. so its gonna be a long process. hes meant to be havng bar shoes on this week but then i cant ride him for another 3 weeks (and then only if hes sound agen) so it will of been 6 weeks at least without riding! yawn

My pony has done rather a lot of box rest in the last year - surgery last autumn for a chip fracture so three months off then she just has nearly a month in with laminitis. I find there's still plenty to do with her though even though she can't be ridden. She can't socialise and there aren't any others in so I spend more time with her. Sometimes I just sit and read in her stable - I know it's sad but I'm doing my masters so I have to read anyway and this way I'm keeping her company. I curry her a fair bit as she can't go in the field to roll properly and strap her to try and keep some of her muscle tone - I think extra grooming is really important when they're off work.
I got a book of stretches for horses and learnt some stretching exercises to do in the stable. I also learnt some horse massage off the internet.
When I was allowed to hand walk her I varied it by sometimes leading and sometimes long reining around the yard. For a challenge, I taught her to longrein with one rein (my horse neck reins so you can use the rein to push her over as well as guide her around). I also took her grazing in hand (after the surgery, not the laminitis).
