So Reo was diagnosed at start of May with bad ulcers, he is on Gastro guard and antepsin from vet, after advice from H/h forum have changed feed to alfalfa, ERS pellets and supplements are red cell as prone to anemia, horse first calmer , naf haylage balancer and protexin. I have also stopped his garlic. The problem is now he isn't that keen about eating up his feed he has always been a bit fussy and its a lot of supplements, and he is a not poor, Does anyone have any ideas what I can give in his feed to make it more appealing pls :$ I had thought maybe fibre beet as heard speedi beet was a no no ?

Honest but probably unwelcome answer ? You are straying a long way from what is a natural diet. Ulcers are a reaction to an unnatural feeding regime. Forget haylage. It causes many problem,it has saved many horses with respiratory problems brought on by bad hay. But here lies the problem ,munching hay in large quantities keeps the stomach acidity under control. You need to feed hay, the best cleanest good hay you can beg borrow or steal(ok buying might also be an option:D). The whole hard feed issue is a bit of a con . Let me give you an example. I am currently selling an organic ley hay made last july ,without rain. My customers have had problems keeping weight on their horses regardless of hard feed intake. Suddenly the horses are getting fat ,why ,because the hay has a DE of roughly the same as the concentrate they were buying ,but without the simple starches linked with ulcers. They are all having to cut back on feeding concentrates ,the horses simply dont need them. The hay ,even though it is top quality ,is still only £180 per tonne yet concentrates are more than twice that price. You can easily train a novice eventer on no more than the best clean hay. (though I would feed a mineral suplement purely for safety ).

Thanks Mike007, I appreciate what you are saying about energy source from hay alone, I do need some hard feed though to get his supplements down which he needs, his calmer as he stresses a lot, red cell as prone to anaemia and most importantly his antepsin tablets crushed up for the ulcers,
